Guy at work is my age (27) and is proposing to his gf of 7 years. Anyways it's been a big thing around the office and all the girls and even some guys are all helping him with the ring selection.

His budget is 10k.

I seriously don't think I could justify spending 10k on an item that serves no purpose other than being aesthetically pleasing. Like 10k for an object that has no functional purpose.

I seriously don't think I could marry a girl that expects this sort of thing. Maybe I'll bite the bullet one day and get a ring but right now 10k on a ring seems nuts.

My wife used to admire my grandmas rings all the time and before my gma passed away she gave them to me to propose to her with. They're worth about 15k combined (wedding and engagement), which is more than I would have spent but I know some people spend more. I caught a lucky break.

Dunno even know why there are two separate rings for wedding and engagement. Should be just a simple gold band like mens rings. The jewelry industry is a complete scam since diamonds aren't even rare or have any intrinsic value.

I spent about $1200-$1300 around a decade ago for the engagement ring. I think it was a couple of hundred for the wedding ring itself.

My wife says that she would have preferred a smaller ring.

My set was $1500 total. And, actually, my fiancee had no job at the time so it was put on my store credit card and we paid it off together. Course, we both had kids and other financial obligations.
But even if 10k was limit, use that on an unforgettable honeymoon!!!!!
(Not to mention I have very tiny fingers so big rings look stupid on me)

I think I spent about $10k for the engagement ring and another couple for the wedding band. That was back in 2004 though.

Now she's talking about "upgrading" to something huge. What makes her think she's worth more at 35 than she was at 23?! Sloots man, I swear. I might have to drop the glow bomb on her.
