[I posted this in the finance section but wanted to drop it here also for more views]*
There is a good chance a company makes me an offer and I know it will be below six figures, which is a step down from my salary with is slightly under 120k however I know the cost of living change (moving from the bay area to Louisiana) could be considered significant. I don't want to tip the exact town as I don't really want the company to be indentifiable for privacy purposes, but it's not a major city like shreveport, more like a smaller city/town but not rural either.
What should I consider before making a decision?
Is taking the salary hit compensated by COL?
Ideally I would like to hear from someone who lives/works there. I am familiar with the south in a general sense as I have lived in Texas and Georgia so the culture shock wouldn't be extreme, but I am not familar with Louisiana. I am a bachelor in his prime, so local education, home ownership, etc are not my priorities right now, getting the most bang for my buck expense wise, and slaying copious amounts of southern belles are. My background is I was born and raised in Cali but spent six years in the army where I did live in the south, but now am more of a stereotypical "techie" as we are derragatorily termed here in the bay area.
Also, a few points I would like to hear informed opinions on:
taxes
gun laws
marijuana laws
any climate factors etc that could affect my car (i.e. if I was moving to Jersey, concerns might be snow and salt...guessing here)
Hit me with it!

Gotta love the 18 yr old troll comments spawned by their self amusement ideas and skewed perception of the value of money.
If I even get 1/20 legit replies this endeavor would have been successful.

I wouldn't want to live in a small town if I was trying to slay. No matter what the change in COL is. Also isn't the Bay Area GOAT for smashing since it has so many techie-asians and twinks which = more available straight women?
Wait, who am I kidding - its 2017.. Chad gets all of them

Will they really offer you that much less? seems like they'd have to offer competitive salaries if they want tech *******s to move there

Anyway I added the slay part more for humor than anything else, I am confident I will find it wherever I go, don't want that to be the sole focus of the question here though lol.

You will be moving from where 120k is practically poverty to where 90k is killing it. As far as status with the ladies go I think you will be making a big move up since that's your concern especially ones that are looking for a guy with $ (and really they just about all are).
Being near the gulf is way nicer than the bay in terms of beach/water. But the bay area and northern cali has a lot more to offer in terms of picturesque views. Most of the South looks like ****. Its mostly flat with strip malls and swamps.
I think the biggest concern for you might be lack of mobility in the area. I can't imagine some small town in Louisiana has many other tech jobs. If this one doesn't work out you probably can't find another job without moving. Plus there might be more limited opportunities for advancement. But I'm sure you know more about that than I do since you didn't say what your flield even was exactly and where you are now/where you are going. But keep that general thing in mind whether this is good for your career or bad.

Just ran the comparison in the website below. I just picked the SF Metro area and compared it to the New Orleans metro area and it returned that you could make almost 50% less and maintain the same quality of life. If it is an even smaller city than NO, it would go even farther. So effectively it would be quite a raise. Just remember to take into account more intangibles like friends, family, coworkers, social life, mode of transport, commute etc.

when you finally get to the next town it's 2 buildings yet somehow there's still car-sized potholes that haven't been fixed and all you see is "hurricane evacuation route ---->" signs like god help me if i'm ever caught in a hurricane in that ****hole, just put me out of my misery

Marietta is a decent place to live as well. But going up 400 is where the nicer areas in Atlanta are. Buckhead and north of it.
As for Lanier itself.....Cocktail Cove? Sloots everywhere

Obviously has everything any other good lake has as well. It's very big, so skiing, tubing, kayaking, boating, fishing, etc etc all on the table.

Pretty cheap cost of living. You'll likely be in the 5% and will pretty much be able to afford an extremely nice house. Taxes are decent. Gun law's are about as good as any other conservative state. As long as your not a felon... Marijuana is still frowned upon. Legalization (Medically) is supposedly in the works however. Car's do pretty well because they never salt the roads. It almost never snows and if it does, it doesn't stick to the road. Its warm pretty much year round. You might get a few chilly days of winter but for the most part a hoodie can be adequate. And again its only a few days before you can be outside in shorts and a t-shirt again. South Louisiana literally has some of the best food in the country if that's your thing.
What area of the state you looking at? Baton Rouge (Especially near LSU) literally has some of the most beautiful females in the country IMO. Yes there are a ton of fatties because its the south, but there are also a ton of HBB's. You'll miss the beaches of course but a 4 or 5 hour drive (if you live in South La) will get you on the beaches in Florida. There are other beaches along the way but IMO Florida beaches are the best in the US.
Some of the cities really suck but some are decent. A single guy without kids making 90K a year will damn near live like a king. If you don't want it to be permanent it would be completely feasible to live extremely well on 60- 70K a year and bank 20k-30k per year... After you get a few hundred grand in the bank or so move to a more desirable location.
