Asking for personal reasons, I'm not one yet. Although that might be changing soon, just getting jitters thinking about it. I'm not even sure I'll graduate the police academy, I mean I know what to expect I used to be police cadet...
But still I won't know for sure unless I give it my best shot, part of me is afraid I might actually be good at the job. I'm going into this field cause as a kid I had planned on joining the military then getting into Law Enforcement, the military didn't work out so I bided my time working (at the same place I've started since dropping out of college) and tested for multiple departments since.
Even in college while I obviously was interested in bodybuilding/fitness. I changed my major of Kinesiology to Criminal Justice. I still dropped out only after 2 semesters and really can't see myself getting into any other field. I could be wrong of course, but I'm on the cusp of getting started in this field and just find myself wondering if it's for me. I want to believe it is, but of course I won't know for sure until I earn the badge and am sitting in a squad car.

No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

i would end up on national tv for beating the chit out of someone and probably cause a riot.

Ex. When I was a police cadet, I did one week of a police academy
Ex. 2 High strung boss that tests my patience
I'm usually good at keeping at my cool, even when I'm being pressured I take my time and make sure I don't make any mistakes. I do get taken advantage of for being good-natured/naive/young and I know people on the streets will probably to try take of advantage of that, it's happened to me in the past but I'm certain that they train recruits to deal with that sort of thing. Idk man, I just don't know...

No, too dangerous and they wouldn't take me anyway due to my hearing disability.
I actually wanted to and tried to join different branches/departments of the military, but they wouldn't take me due to my disability. I understand why though, if you can't hear orders or can't hear the battle around you, you'll die easily and be rendered useless.

EDIT: If anything even though I'm afraid, I'm more afraid of failing/not getting the job then trying to figure out how to earn a good living and move out of the nest. Quite literally this is the only thing career wise I've worked toward and if I don't succeed I'll have a hard time figuring out what to do as an alternative.

I wouldn't. Maybe in the 1980's in a nice suburban town, but not nowadays. too much bs with bodycams, technicalities, and bs like that.

No.
I would hate myself if my job was to hand out tickets to teenagers who like to drive fast and old ladies with eyesight problems. Unless my job was detective or I was a SWAT officer.
No disrespect to those who protect and serve I would just hate traffic duty with every fiber of my being.

like I said the 80's would of been epic tho. chit even 1920-1989 would of been epic to be a cop. not anymore. dont get me wrong if you have connections to get a high end suburban neighborhood $100k+ job its prolly chill but other than that, na.

From a psych standpoint, people tend to be drawn to jobs that they feel is best for their "issues". For instance, if someone is likely to bully or do bad things, they tend to be drawn to being a police officer, but not for the reason you would think. They actually do it because they feel it will help prevent them from doing bad things.
Anyway, back on topic. I wanted to be an LEO for many years when I was younger. Baltimore city police would have taken me, but after interviewing there, I gtfo of there because of the crap I saw. Some of these dudes couldn't even tuck in their shirts right, and half the people that showed up for the interview were wearing shorts and T shirts. Captain excused everyone for the "over sight". Me and two other people were the only ones dressed for an interview.
I then went to the Sheriff's office where I had interviewed three times. Finally gave up on that one too. From there, I decided to take another route. I got my EMT, then went on to get my Paramedic. Looking back, they did me a favor. I would have been miserable as an officer. No regrets at all. I worked with PD frequently and have no desire to deal with the crap they deal with, especially in today's world.

No, they have to deal with too much dangerous trash. The Dinkheller video is a strong deterrent.

I was there twice OP. Once out of the service and another time a few years later. Went to the orientation then thought long and hard and realized it wasn't for me. Good luck.

Valid points ITT, I'll just go with the flow right now and see how it works out. I'm pretty sure I'm done with the background check stuff. My investigator just needs to submit the paperwork and i may very well be off to the academy soon.

No, too many stupid and crazy people.

No way. Piss poor pay and nowadays they aren't even allowed to enforce the law. They shoot a guy with a gun and their career could be over. I'd be fired instantly.
