My wife doesn't want our kid to have my last name...
This isn't some feminist BS though - she doesn't want the kid to have her last name either. She said she wants to make up a new last name because she hates my family. She suggested giving our kid the name "Gregory" as a last name (my first name). Not sure how I feel...

I feel like these have to be troll threads. There's no way 1.) men would let this gay chit happen in real life, and 2.) no way they would share it online, if it were true.

How are you even considering this?
Hi, I'm your kid's teacher. Are you Mr. and Mrs. Gregory?
Well, no. I'm Mr. Smith and this is Mrs. Jones. We can't have the same last name because we're childish.

It's about your legacy, bruh. Your family could have been racist KKK members dating back to the middle-ages - doesn't mean you have to raise your kid that way. That's what legacy is all about. It's on you to elevate, change, and evolve the name. First to go to college, first to start their own business, first to go into the military, first to... whatever...

That has got to be the dumbest thing i've ever heard of. I mean really OP, you're entertaining this? As a married man I understand compromise bro, but there are certain things you absolutely 100% put your foot down over. Her not giving him your last name has nothing to do with disliking your family, it has everything with that disdain spilling over into her feelings for you. I'm not saying she doesn't love you. Doesn't care about you. I'm saying that your family is who you are. It defines you, and your legacy. Your child is you. So if your child doesn't have your last name who is he/she? What can he/she tie himself/herself to? What lineage? What sense of self worth or culture?
I take a great pride in my last name. I love it, and I'd be damned if my child didn't carry it on.

She may not like yourcurrentfamily members but there is a legacy here. It's part of our culture to do so. I mean if you want to go off and do something on your own, do w/e the fuk you wanna do. Just really, I mean really think carefully about the above statement and how many times you'll have to bring this up in life.
Soo... why doesn't your kid have the same last name as you?
Think about insurance and anything else you'll have to do. It'll be all extra explanations and documentations and more questions you'll get. All just because your woman doesn't like people in your family. Dumb excuse.
