Thank you misc for not coming in and chitting on the cop for getting physically overpowered...because...you know...it can happen.
Of course it can happen. Cops these days are tasked with about fifty different jobs, being professional level fighters who can take anybody out there 1 on 1, even in an ambush setting, even when the cops are held to much tighter rules and requirements and use of force continuums than their attackers...not always going to come out on top of everything.

What the fuk?

People break up fights all the time without having to resort to shooting someone to break up a fight.

Just rugby tackle him off of the cop, hold him down with the cop, wait for backup, cuff em and go about your day.

Am I wrong?

Yeah you are. You assume your rugby tackle attempt is going to result in you with the upper hand. There were 2 guns involved (the cop's and the citizen's). I don't know about you, but I wouldn't risk being on the bottom end of a tackle and end up with a bullet in my brain. If you attack a cop in this manner and are attempting to potentially kill a cop, then you obviously have 0 respect for the law and you're likely a piece of siht that needs to be removed from a civilized society. Good riddance

If someone thinks he can play god, then that power tripping douche should be killed, especially if the victim's job is to keep people safe.

Seems there may be some tunnel vision on this single incident

Most frequently, wide-spread possession of firearms is incredibly dangerous for law enforcement officers

Amidst all this, these LEOs are held to incredibly high (and often unreasonable) standards when their lives are on the line

Once you do then what? Cop looked like he was out of commission and now it's just some random guy vs who knows what? The guy on top of the cop may be a experinced fighter. Now he kills you too?

Take this situation -

Same situation, but the person getting beat up is not a cop.

The guy shoots the person on top.

Would you still say that was the best way to handle the situation as the outsider?

The cop was still moving/fighting back/ grabbing the attackers arms, etc...

There were more people approaching the scene.

All odds are in your favor, drastically.

So it's not the same situation lol

Let me ask you this, if some guy starts flashing his lights at you and tells you to pull over, do you do it? If he asks you to get out of your car, do you do it? You do, right?

Nobody was doing anything but videoing so does not look like anyone else was helping.
Where was the cops gun? Was the guy on top going for it? Plus what would happen if he did get the cops gun when the guy tackled him or he grabs the civilians gun?

Considering how frequently you point out that police have no duty to protect anyone, I find this comment rather ironic.

And yet, police officers take action to protect people all the time.

I guess you don't think they should

Is a union going to cover a citizen's legal fees if things go south?

Does a citizen have departmental insurance if they're disabled or killed?

Nope.

What does every first responder have drilled into their heads?

Your safety is priority number 1.

Regular folks have even more to lose if things go bad in that kind of situation, can't get on your high horse about them not intervening.
