This is common practice on airlines. It's not your seat. You're paying for the privilege of using that seat. It's their seat. They can make you get out of their seat.

If you buy a ticket to a sporting event... same thing. They can kick you out whenever they want.

Thats true. Someone probably could have done that and made the problem go away. Honestly ive seen a couple other videos of the guy. I am kind of doubting that he is a doctor. He seems a little unhinged. But that could be the brain injury from his skull making contact with the armrest.

If it is a great inconvenience then a greater compensation is required. You defended his point. There is a price people are willing to pay to be inconvenienced and United didn't offer them a price worthy of that. If they did then people would accept it.

Account of what happened from someone that was on the flight (reddit comment so no proof, who knows if legit) :

my comment reposted from a previously deleted thread:
I was on this flight and want to add a few things to give some extra context. This was extremely hard to watch and children were crying during and after the event.
When the manager came on the plane to start telling people to get off someone said they would take another flight (the next day at 2:55 in the afternoon) for $1600 and she laughed in their face.
The security part is accurate, but what you did not see is that after this initial incident they lost the man in the terminal. He ran back on to the plane covered in blood shaking and saying that he had to get home over and over. I wonder if he did not have a concussion at this point. They then kicked everybody off the plane to get him off a second time and clean the blood out of the plane. This took over an hour.
All in all the incident took about two and a half hours. The united employees who were on the plane to bump the gentleman were two hostesses and two pilots of some sort.
This was very poorly handled by United and I will definitely never be flying with them again.

airlines are garbage these days..constantly overbooking, making us pay for luggage now and trying to upsell everything from seats to food and snacks....i hate airlines in america....the flight attendants arent even mildly attractive

Mind blown at some of the comments in this thread.

Can you imagine being this guy? You buy a ticket, you go all through hassle of getting ready to travel on an airplane. Through security checks, waiting, you board the plane, you sit down. Then some random thugs from the airport walks up to you, singles you out and out of the other hundreds of passengers, they demands that you give up your seat. I would be angry as hell.

It shouldn't even be legal for the airline industry to forcefully kick a passenger off a plane because they made a mistake. If they offered money and the passengers didn't want to leave, they should have offered even more money.

It isn't always about the money. People have places to be. If they were trying to kick me off and offered me double my fare, I wouldn't ****ing take it either.

Idk why all of you *******s are saying that he should have gotten off the plane. Or if they volunteer you to give up your seat you should go. Some people have busy schedules. If you are busy and flying to your daughters graduation or some family event and they say gtfo and get on next plane you aren't going to be happy.

I have no sympathy for him. He's a piece of sh*t. I hope he gets deported back to China. THIS WHOLE THING makes me rage! Seriously, what kind of asinine policy allows them to forcefully remove someone FOR NO REASON from a flight they paid for?Is it the passengers fault they're a full flight? They should kindly request if anyone would like to volunteer to give up their flight for money and if no one does THEN OH WELL! They eat the cost as a lose, they lose money, not the passengers fault. Airline needs to do a better job of filling seats etc.
