I made $134,000 this month (srs) not counting investments. Pure job income. AMA

I know this place well enough to know how some of the posts are going to go... but just know that outside of this thread there are only 2 people in real life that know I made this much this month or make anywhere near what I do. I live in a little place built in the 1960s and keep stuff like this a secret

So yes, today misc is going to be my outlet and yes you can call it bragging. I hate that word but I grew up in poverty and I'm not even 30 so there's a huge part of me that wants to scream it from a mountain top but I can't and most of the people I'm close with in real life I can't tell. So. Anonymously my forum is it.

You might remember I made a thread like this in January because in Jan I made $64,000 and at that time that was by far the most I've made in a month. Neither of these months are normal, about $21k/month is normal if I'm doing good.

I've proven myself in other threads before so hopefully it's not needed here.

I'm in software sales and that's about as specific as I want to get on that but other questions, go for it. I'll probably delete the thread eventually.

Hard to comprehend
You must be selling $1mil in software to warrant those huge commissions
How does someone even get started with a gig like that?

Lol "snow" never at all (not sure if you were being serious with that question)

About $350/hour

25-30 hours a week I'd say. That's about normal. I work from home and travel.

Lol I'm not even sure man. To be honest, taxes don't even make me angry. I'm just happy/fortunate to be where I am right now. It is what it is.

Yeah, I'd say I closed total contract value somewhere between $4-5 million this month and probably a bit over 10 million for the year.

I'm trying to help a few people get into my industry but it's not at all as "unachievable" as it sounds. Don't get me wrong, this month and January are very abnormal, especially this month, i'll be lucky if it happens again in the next 5 years but $20k months are very normal and some are $30-40, some are less than 20 and that's achievable.

Software sales. I always tell people get into software. Just keep working your way up the chain from bigger sales jobs to bigger sales jobs. As counter intuitive as it sounds, you don't have to work longer and more hours to work up the chain. Maybe just in the first 5 years of your career or so.

Misc has changed, serious, I notice people rarely call me out on things like this anymore lol. 2-3-4 years ago the first 20 posts would have been calling BS and asking for spoon pics.

Or maybe you guys have seen some other threads where I prove a few things?

So here's what you do.

Say you make $50,000/year right now.

Try to outsell the people in your office, or your region, whatever. Just do something notable that you can put on a resume "outperformed whole office X month" or something maybe a bit more modest but still boasting on a resume. "Top performance for April, May, and August 2017".

You get the idea.

Build a LinkedIn, after you have a bit of experience and some good stuff to put on a resume, start messaging recruiters and networking, apply for a job and negotiate an income that's not $50k, but $80k/year.

Lie a little bit and say you make $65k, very unlikely they will check your W2. Or say you have competing offers for $80k, that you like them more but they need to match for you to feel comfortable and accept.

Rinse and repeat that method but not $80k, this time go for $110k.

Rinse and repeat to $135k.

Rinse and repeat to $155k.

...

...

Profit (serious)

This is more realistic than people imagine.

Either A) along the line you'll find a great company that you actually want to grow within or

B) you'll eventually get to a great income and then you can try different companies.

You just have to make sure you're in a good vertical, as in say... software sales. Then get even more niche, say software security sales. It's not abnormal to find jobs for above $150,000/year in software sales, at all. In fact, the right company will surpass $200,000/year, some jobs even surpass $300,000/year. Just always act professional, calm, modest but ambitious in real life.
