Knew someone who recently died on impact due to a car pulling out in front of him. I had a bike for about a year and maybe I'll get one again in the future just to cruise the blue ridge parkway and backroads but I'll never use one to commute in prime rush hour screw that.

I wouldn't say that....the recklessly part. I've never been that way. I'm not in a rush to go anywhere and I damn sure wouldn't be rushing if I was on my bike. The dangers are just too great when you're doing that. I drive the limit, maybe a bit over, but that's most of us. We'll sometimes be 5 or 6 over, but nothing too great. I was 3 to 4mph over, taking a regular curve and this happened.

I do feel lucky, grateful and will be taking something from this experience.
God bless you my guy.. I am glad you are alive and well.. But it is not always the persons fault that get's the worst of it.. Motorcycle accidents are usually fatal.. Please sell that thing for parts,get a roof,doors,and some air bags to protect you..

Serious happy to see that you are ok OP.

My last wreck I woke up in a ditch with the paramedics cutting off my pants and I freaked out like "Whoa! I have to go to work, don't wreck my fukkin pants!" LOL the sh*t you say and do right after a wreck is insane...you just want to stand up and move on like nothing happened!

The hospital had to call my 8 and a half month pregnant wife and tell her what happened. That is the worst part of a motorcycle wreck...if the worst happens, there is no chance to even tell your loved ones that you love them...you just disappear off the face of the earth in a bunch of ziploc bags.

With that said, I still ride OP. Everyone is different, you may decide enough is enough. I am torn by it often. I just hope I won't be torn in half.

Don't even think about it now, just get healed up, reflect on what you still have and what it all means to you and then see if the risk of losing all that is equal to the feel of riding. If not, don't go back to it and enjoy all the things you have given it up for.

Again, really glad you are ok.

Happy to take the gf 2 miles down the back roads to a ice cream stand, go see a movie and bring bike home.

I'll never sell it, but I think the days of riding hard and being out all night are behind me.

Been in a few close spots like that. People pulling out, getting in front of you without looking/signal....it's frustrating. Traffic isn't our friend on a bike. I try to avoid it when I can.

Very true. I have a truck as well, so I'll be driving that more when I'm not in my company truck. I actually kept saying that when I was being placed in the ambulance and made it back home. "I should've drove my truck, I should've drove my truck". But what's done is done....it's a life lesson for sure.

welcome to the club. glad youre alive. that chits real dangerous. I got a tank slapper on the freeway April 2014. made a thread about it here. no gear, just some road rash and like one bruise. went down doing 80 or 90 i forget but I rolled I didnt skid.. so that saved my skin and bones.. paramedics wouldnt let me move my head around for fear that I may have a fractured spine. everything was alright though. no need for skin grafts. I was in the gym squatting the next day with my knees and forearms still wrapped up and bloody and unable to move my right shoulder.

It's a 300 actually.

It wobbled. I was half tucked, tried to get upright and correct it and by that time, I was in gravel and being thrown over. I'll try to get some pictures of where it was and where I ended up. My brother-in-law asked me what I hit because he said there was a big ass rock by my bike when they came to get it. Sh**, all I remember is being in the turn, I hit something, veering left, trying to correct it, I'm being tossed off the bike and rolling twice and ending up on my back. Then people coming and checking on me. It was that fast.....

I haven't done the claim yet. I'm going to do it today. They'll probably total it out. Bike is paid for, so I don't owe anyone anything.

That's true. You could never be able to tell them you love them, see their faces, hold their hands....all of that. That is indeed truly fukcing scary. I mean, I'm okay with death, but I don't want to go out like that. I don't want an accident to be the end of YIAM. One of the ladies who was trying to call my people, I said, "Can you call my mom? Just....just don't tell her what happened." Lol. She said, "Well honey, I have to tell her.....". I said, "Are you sure?" Lol. I didn't want her to worry, no idea why I said that, but that was the first thing that came into my head.

I'm definitely going to make the most of my time here. You never know when it can end and I'm going to look at this as a second chance. Make things right in some different areas, try new things, be open more than I have been.

Definitely gonna cry some more though.....but those will be happy tears I guess.

Thanks man. My brother in law said yesterday was his answer to getting one. Nope. I can't blame him...it's scary. Glad you only do limited riding now. I think I'll be the same if I get back on.

Will never own a bike, had a moped and came off a few times due to rain or gravel. Clearly two wheels and an engine are not for me.

Dread to think how it must be to come off with speed 2-3x more, I'm glad you're safe.

You seem like you're quite sensible on the bike, geared up etc. But can i ask how you'd rate your level of competence on a bike?
How long have you been riding?
How long did you drive before that?
Do you have a full bike license?
Have you done any advanced road training?
Do you think this accident was unavoidable?
Would you have done anything differently in hindsight?

Glad you made it out alive.

My neighbor used to ride, one of my best friends.

A younger guy from the gym saved up for 2 years to get a motorcycle and died his first week riding. My buddy never got on his again.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm scared enough to say no now. I'll look at them, but nah, I'm good on riding. We were actually supposed to go to ATL for a bike thing on Memorial Day. Guess I'll be in my truck riding behind the bikes if I do go.
I hated riding on the street for a long time. I liked riding on the track but it was expensive and too much of a hassle. If you have ins. on it I'd just total it too. I mountain bike (pedal not motor) a lot and race so I replaced moto with pedals.
Do I even lift?

Small bikes are light, good for quick turns, but they lack stability at highway speeds. They get buffeted around by crosswinds or semi trucks much more easily than a big 600lbs bike.
