Lorne Grabher said he's had his personalized licence plate for 25 years and it's ridiculous the province has cancelled it.

Grabher said his father taught his children to always be proud of their name and where they come from. (Lorne Grabher is of German heritage)
He was even more offended by an email sent to CBC News by a spokesman from the Department of Transportation, Brian Taylor. It said: "A complaint was received outlining how some individuals interpret [the name] as misogynistic and promoting violence against women."
The email went on to say, "With no way to denote that it is a family name on the plate, the department determined it was in the public's best interest to remove it from circulation."
CBC requested an interview with Janice Hartland, the director of road safety at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, but was told there would not be one.
"I've never once had anybody come up to me and say they were offended," Grabher said. "They would look at it and say, 'Am I reading this right?' And I would go, 'Yes.' And they would go, 'Is this your last name?' And I would go, 'Yes.' And they would always just give a little chuckle."'
Possible backlash from Trump?
Grabher is familiar with the infamous recording of U.S. President Donald Trump using offensive language to say he wanted to "grab her" in reference to a woman. But Grabher said he is not Trump and that is not the intention of his plate.

DONKEY OF THE DAY
Police in Radnor, Pennsylvania, interrogated a suspect by placing a metal colander on his head and connecting it with wires to a photocopy machine. The message “He’s lying” was placed in the copier, and police pressed the copy button each time they thought the suspect wasn’t telling the truth. Believing the “lie detector” was working, the suspect confessed.

A guy in southern California got his car wedged under the back left part of a huge tractor trailer on Wednesday, about 50 miles northeast of L.A. And somehow the truck driver didn't even notice . . . he just kept driving until someone pulled in front of him and got him to stop.
According to the highway patrol, he dragged the guy's car for almost a mile. Luckily no one was seriously hurt.
Do they never check their mirrors? Truckers get me heated sometimes, especially when they see you coming up to pass and also pull out to pass in front of you instead of waiting for 5 seconds so you can get by.

The universe is 99.9999999% empty.
Given that 95% is made up of dark matter and dark energy and the remaining 5% is matter of which ... 99.9999999% is empty space between the subatomic particles.
So the universe is practically empty.
Also consider that the zero-energy hypothesis proposes that the total amount of energy in the universe is exactly zero...
where the amount of positive energy in the form of matter is exactly canceled out by its negative energy in the form of gravity.
Just thought I'd post this chit as I find it interesting, but then again, this is mainly backed up by mathematical equations and minimal scientific evidence, so who knows how much of it is true?
My motto is, never believe anything 100% but remain open-minded...

When two service station attendants in Ionia, Michigan, refused to hand over the cash to an intoxicated robber, the man threatened to call the police. They still refused, so the robber called the police and was arrested.

CAT ISLAND~FELINES OUTNUMBER HUMANS
AOSHIMA, Japan — An army of feral cats rules a remote island in southern Japan, curling up in abandoned houses or strutting about in a fishing village that is overrun with felines outnumbering humans six to one.
Originally introduced to the mile-long island of Aoshima to deal with mice that plagued fishermen's boats, the cats stayed on — and multiplied. More than 120 cats swarm the island with only a handful of humans for company, mostly pensioners who didn't join the waves of migrants seeking work in the cities after World War Two.
Aoshima, a 30-minute ferry ride off the coast of Ehime prefecture, had been home to 900 people in 1945. The only sign of human activity now is the boatload of day-trippers from the mainland, visiting what is locally known as Cat Island. With no restaurants, cars, shops or kiosks selling snacks, Aoshima is no tourist haven. But cat lovers are not complaining.

A guy got in trouble for ignoring firefighters and running back into a burning building to save some property
A 56-year-old guy in South Dakota got arrested on Sunday after he disobeyed firefighters, and ran back into his burning apartment building . . . to save two cans of BEER. Specifically, Bud Ice Premium
APRIL 24--A South Dakota man was arrested yesterday afternoon after he pushed past police and firefighters so that he could “save” his beer inside an apartment building that was aflame.
Michael Casteel, 56, was collared outside his home, a multifamily residence in Sioux Falls. As emergency workers were treating other building residents for injuries, Casteel, cops say, persisted in trying to reenter the building (seen above) to retrieve beer from his apartment.
Casteel succeeded in returning to his home, where he grabbed two cans of Bud Ice Premium, cops say. Upon exiting the building with cans in hand, Casteel was arrested for his ill-advised beer run.
A police spokesperson charitably described Casteel’s devotion to his suds as “poor judgment.”
Casteel, charged with obstructing a firefighter or law enforcement official, was booked into the Minnehaha County jail (where he is locked up in lieu of $300 bond).
According to state records, Casteel was arrested last month for drunk driving and several other misdemeanor charges, including threatening a law enforcement officer and driving with an open container of alcohol. He is scheduled for trial on May 16.
Casteel’s rap sheet also includes an April 2016 conviction for drunk driving and a March 2016 bust for felony domestic abuse (a charge that was subsequently dismissed by prosecutors).

FIVE NICE FACTS ABOUT CANADA
1-People in Churchill leave their car doors unlocked in case their neighbours need to make a quick escape from polar bears.
2- No cows in Canada are given artificial hormones for milk production.
Which means no dairy products, like milk, cheese, or yogurt, produced in Canada contain hormones either!
3-For one day in 1943, Ottawa designated a hospital room to be "extraterritorial" (international) ground so a Dutch princess could be born a full Dutch citizen.
(A Dutch requirement for her to keep her princess title.)
4-^^^And every year the Netherlands sends Canada thousands of tulips to show their gratitude.
5-Kraft Dinner ("KD") is the top-selling grocery item in the country. Canadians consume 55% more of it than Americans do.

neat thread OP!
fun fact.
If the earth was the size of a small marble (~1-2cm radius) the nearest star to us other than our sun would be ~23, 000 miles

The band is named after a sculpture in Seattle called "Soundgarden," and longtime speculation was that this song got its name from another Seattle sculpture called "Black Sun," by the artist Isamu Noguchi. (The piece is located in Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill. It looks kind of like a huge, black doughnut and is aimed so you can see the Space Needle through the middle of it.)
Chris Cornell stated in a 2014 interview with Entertainment Weekly that the title came from something he heard on the news - he thought the anchor said "black hole sun," but he really was saying something else. Cornell started thinking about the phrase and decided to write a song around it, as he felt it was a thought-provoking title. He wrote the lyrics first, then composed the music based on the images he came up with.
Love this song:

1-They have a $300 collector’s gold coin that has a narwhal on it.

^^^The moose and narwhal look like they are having too much fun.
2-And a special quarter with a GLOW-IN-THE DARK DINOSAUR on it.

3-The Canadian Mint also created a $1,000,000 coin that is actually usable.

Dash-Cam Footage of a Fiery Plane Crash in Washington State
A single-engine plane crashed next to a busy road about 30 miles north of Seattle on Tuesday, and someone's dash-cam got it on video.
It flew through some power lines and clipped a traffic light, which ruptured its fuel tank and caused a massive FIREBALL. But somehow the pilot and his passenger both walked away from it, and two people on the ground had minor injuries.

Is This Girl's Arm Six Feet Long?
There's a photo going viral right now that we thought we'd share with you, because it's got that perfect mix of WEIRD and CONFUSING.
A girl in the Netherlands posted a photo earlier this week of her and her sister posing with some friends at a club . . . and her sister's arm looks about SIX FEET LONG.
Now . . . it's all an optical illusion that's caused by the perfect positioning of the people, their clothes, and something that's either a purse or a furry coat. But as far as optical illusions go, this is a good one.

Are we going to ignore the fact the dude is wearing a whitney houston shirt tho? And look at the kid to the left in the background, lol...blitzed!
