University gym here:
-Mean social people: Guy comes in all the time with jeans and flat bill hat looking for someone to talk to. Doesn't find anyone. Randomly does one set of something random. Leaves. Repeat everyday. When he does find his friends, they lean on the equipment and talk about other people's poor form.
-People who think they are personal trainers: Comes in with cut off tee and flabby arms. Always has his skinny friend that he "spots." Never ever seen him lift a damn weight.
-People who don't understand what cutting is: Folks talking about "bodybuilding" when they look like 30% Michelin Man.
-Superseting the whole gym. Mad dogging everyone you think is gonna work in on your 5 pieces of equipment your using.

I run a hotel spa and gym, and had one of our members come up to me to complain that somebody on a treadmill was making too much noise. Walk over and it's an overweight guy jogging with heavy impacts. The member says something to me about the fact that heavy people shouldn't use the machines b/c they'll damage them. Absolutely disgusting. I said the machine is rated to handle any person's weight, and that we welcome everyone trying to take care of their health.
When the guy finishes his cardio I saw him eyeing the machines, so showed him some basic circuit exercises to build up his strength. Some people are dicks.

Go to the gym to work out, that's it. How fukking crushingly sad do you have to be to actually resort to getting your social activity from a gym with randoms who you don't know other than they happen to be a member of the same gym. Smfh every time.

However there are groups that revolve their whole social life around being at my gym. I swear that they must hang out there at least 4 hours a day. I see them every time I go no matter what time and day they are usually in groups talking the whole time.

Then there's an older guy who carries a balance board around with him, and after every set on every machine, proceeds to hop on the board and balance for a good minute while looking around the gym. Wouldn't be so bad, but he always seems to pick a spot that prevents people from using the equipment around him, like standing in the middle of a cable jungle gym or in front of the dumbbell rack.
There's also a younger guy who does barbell curls on a Bosu ball, but he's a good guy so I just ignore it.

there's this one indian DYEL manlet i saw a few times at my gym. dude was wearing cargo shorts and gloves and doing overhead press with one of those fixed-weight curl bars
the thing is, after every set of overhead press he would drop the bar from chest level (basically slamming it down) to the floor even though he was standing right next to the rack and was only using the 40lbs curl bar...he did this like 4 or 5 times
what a badass

Oh there's always that one guy who is a self-appointed "personal trainer". Walks right over to you midset and eyeballs your form, then proceeds to tell you what he thinks. The one time he did this to me, I was doing DB bench presses. Nothing to critique, but he then suggested that I try eight-second tempo reps, and wouldn't leave me alone until I did a set. I have nothing against tempo movements, I'm sure they have their place in a program, but they weren't in mine.
Same guy also interrupted me while I was deadlifting one day, couldn't get him to leave me alone until I did a deadlift wearing a belt that was hooked to a cable machine for additional hip-hinge resistance. Again, nice to know, but no need to force it on me lol
Also one more thing, when people use the equipment and leave their sweaty ass marks all over the padding instead of wiping it down after they're done.

One day we were both hitting incline db at the same time. His heaviest set he got spotted for was the 100's with a group of his female clients watching and a lesbian trainer spotting him. 100's are my first working set, then 110's, 120's, 130's, then drop set. Saw them all watching me and then went and complained to the manager about my chalk. I keep it in my bag and put little dabs on my hands. I saw him literally point to it and then point to me and I said are you about to complain about it. Then he said "oh that's yours?" Like I didn't just see him try to call me out. I called him ***got trainer. Got firedI heard someone screaming their lungs out. Went and looked at them and they were only squatting 2 plates.
for talking bad to his clients about other clients who were best friends.

Other random stuff I can think of.
-People pulling out their phones taking pictures/videos. Saw some girl bring a dslr camera in the other day taking pictures of a guy doing everything including drinking water.
-People that just have that bad vibe to them were they think they are tough **** and huge but are weak. I wish I was as big as some of them think they are. One guy wears a stringer, flat bill hat, sweatpants, never once had done legs and gloves. I call him gloves ***got.
-A lot of old guys love talking to me for no reason at all for long periods of time. Probably my size mixed with strength.
-Have a guy I know from highschool that has some followers at the gym. Teaches them all half repping. Guys went from weak with normal form to weird 2 inch rom on everything. He tried telling a friend of mine to kick the db's back with straight arms and you only need to go halfway to actually activate the chest.
-Called a personal trainer out for getting another employee to come take a snapchat video of him doing 135 on squats. He said he already went heavy that morning.
-The skinny mirror flexing kids. Two of them are twins that come to mind. Do arms next to the mirror standing sidways to check out their bi's.
-And of course maybe number 1. Absolute garbage form like others have said. For example the quarter rep squat. Then they add another plate.

When a group of 4-5 guys take one bench press and spend more time talking with one another than actually using the bench press.....and not lifting anything heavier than 95lbs

People who walk around in elevation masks and do their whole workout wearing it. I also hate when people walk around like they own the place. Its typically someone with an ok physique, with the smuggest look on their face, and just acting extremely rude. There is no place for either of these things at gyms. Just adds to the stereotypes

basic gym here:
1) Guy points up to the ceiling, looks up and kisses his hand like he is thanking god every time he lifts...srs. No phuking clue what is up. Dude is a shredded manlet and his lifts arn't too bad but he creeps me out. Has done it on multiple occasions.
2) People who deadlift or row with horrible form. Used to try to help them but most get pissy so don't try anymore. I cringe watching their backs.
3) Couple of guys who do dumbbell lifts literally right next to the racks, towel dispenser and then get mad and stare at you whenever you try to get dumbbells near them. Dude the other day asked me "did you say something?" in an odd aggressive way when I came up to pick up a dumbbell. Just laughed at him.
4) People who will see my stuff then proceed to take my weights, bench or workout station. I tell them nicely they are welcome to work in but they always have this irritated look, say they didn't notice then wander away.
5) Those older hunched over men (50-60+) who wear odd stuff tucked in then wander around the gym and stare at people. Not really cringy but so dam creepy.
