To dispel the Islamist attack theory right away, we're talking about a block of working class, government subsidised apartments for low-income families in a residential area of West London. It's likely that a large percentage of the victims are in fact Muslim families. There is about 0% chance that this is an act of terrorism. This is the consequence of local government criminal negligence, nothing more.

I once lived in a 10 story building in the US. We once had a tenet try to BBQ with charcoal briquette in an enclosed building with only small windows for ventilation...not cool... Another time, we had a crazy guy pour oil and petrol down the hallway on two floors (one was my floor) and he ignited it. Fortunately, the building wasn't flammable. A few people unfortunately were found unconscious on the floor trying to breath through the vents. Very scary.

Heard people were throwing themselves out of the buildings ..... Fukkin insane, I cant even imagine the state of mind you must be in to do that. The fear of dyin in a fire and the desperation for some sort of survival .. crazy. Those 9/11 pics of people jumping out the buildings still gives me some kind of feels.

Apparently during a recent "refurbishment", they added materials (plastic cladding and glazed curtain walling) that might have accelerated the fire. There are no confirmations yet so it's all just speculation, but I think this is the likely reason the fire engulfed the whole building so quickly.

also they were working on the gas pipes during their refurbishment. these pipes would have inevitably gon up the length of the building. may as well been a trail of gasoline.

Sad as fuk when you realize the mom probably didn't make itimagine growing up and finding out your mom died like that while she managed to save you. Fuk the kunts who half assed the building's construction and made it so unsafe.

For starters might not even be the local council who are responsible for maintenance of the flats.
Additionally, it could have been started from an external appliance, or the negligence of a tenant. A lot of fires are started by moronic people who fall asleep smoking, or who toss lit cigarettes into bins, and other such silly things (leaving the oven on is another classic).

You may be right, but we'll have to wait for a proper investigation.
It's my opinion, of course, there's no certainty about anything right now, I should have specified that in my post.

Having said that, my gripe isn't really with how the fire started, it's how the entire building managed to become engulfed in flames in such a short amount of time. The fire alarms and sprinkler system also didn't work.

All of these things fall under the council's responsibility and any plans for works/maintenance that were outsourced to 3rd party companies would have had to be studied and approved by council officials. Everything points to negligence right now, but it is just speculation at this time.

What I was mainly trying to underline is that there's no chance of this being a terrorist act, given the context, history and dynamics.
