Been toying with some low volume recently.

Used to do RPT but got tired of it
Went to a pretty high volume program for a year and a half

But now I'm focusing on progressing with one set per exercise, and about 10 exercises per session.

It works well because every set it taken to failure or near failure, but I hit a lot of different exercises so the pump is real.

Weights are heavy as possible in the 8-12 rep range

When I can't progress doing one set, say a couple weeks where I hit the same reps....ill add a second set. Then when that maxes out, train more frequently (currently 3x a week)...when that maxes out, add a 4th session and reorganize.

It's a short session but intense...enjoyable as heck and gives me plenty of rest since work kicks my ass during the summer.

Kinda the same principle as Dorian Yates HIT training. Instead of wasting energy with 4-5 sets of crap, you warm up, and go completely balls deep for 1 max sex. It works really well.

I ran Yates routine awhile back when I was drinking orange juice and it is no joke. You need a serious training partner however to get the most out of it. Doing it alone will not yield the same results because you cannot push past failure without having that spotter assist for the last 2-3 reps.

There is something to be said about changing it up though too. There was a time when I couldn't progress because I lacked the volume necessary and it took me a long time to figure that out. I had done HIT type of training for a while before that.

The only thing I don't like about HIT type of training is that it's more likely to cause injury, especially for us older farts. I will do pause sets a lot, but I don't do rest pauses often.

And yes, Mike was really the first one to really incorporate and push HIT. Near the end of his career, that's all he did.

Truth. A lot of articles of Mentzer vs. Yates style I've read. Both legends in my book and I learned a lot from both.

I do not disagree with anything you said. Two biggest reason why HIT, in my opinion, were the exact two things you said. Lack of volume + chance of injury. To go with your point, changing up to a HIT workout for a 8-10 week cycle is never a bad idea, but I never had a lot of success unless I had a motivating training partner with me. Sucks alone.

Also stopped watching porn 3 weeks ago and that's a harder habit to kick for me than not eating like **** so maybe cutting just pales in comparison idk. I watched a video about how excessive porn usage over time affects the area of your brain that determines your willpower negatively so fixing that would make not binging easier.

RPT for life crew. Sub-optimal or not it's been my fav way to train for a while. To make it worthwhile, you have to push until failure (and by failure I mean form breakdown as to not compromise for injury).

i've found i like spending most of my time training at very sub max intensity. keeping most sets in the rpe 5-8 range and just accumulating volume.

I just prefer more volume, but i started limiting the exercises I did. Just trying to move on and hit some different bases for a while. Being 24, theres plenty of time to grow...and I should grow while its easier.

Plateaued again. I was at 1500 last week, I don't think I lost anything. Don't really want to drop more tbh. Went back up to 1600 this week (I was in Malta last weekend and relaxed, so had a bit of water to drop). Is it worth reversing? Can anyone advise anything? I am counting accurately btw. Was dropping fat steadily and then stopped. I don't think my body wants to become twink like

Depends on how low you currently are. It might not be out of the question for a female to get as low as 1200-1300 calories to get pretty lean, but that depends on how low you currently are, how much cardio you're doing etc.

What do your macros look like? Sometimes it's also a matter of just manipulating macros

Maybe you're right. The thought of dropping that low is..ughhhh. But I'll probably do it if needs be maybe a few weeks before my next hol. Macros I get around 130g protein, probably 60-70g fat (I could probably up this), and carbs I'm not even that sure. I've been trying to focus on getting more fat in lately, so maybe I could tweak that. I'm not sure what bf percentage I'm at now tbh, I just go by the mirror.

I'm on the opposite spectrum and I take in low fat, and a lot more carbs. How long have you been low calorie? I've seen a lot advising a 1-2 week period of maintenance after an extended time on calorie restriction. Do you have refeeds during the week at all?

It sounds like you're right on track. Other than nailing down your carb intake, your protein and fat intake seems pretty good there.

One thing I like to do at certain points of a diet is to start carb cycling. This allows me to manage my fat and carbs a little better, as well as allowing me to drop a little water. Dropping some water weight really helps with motivation and might get you the look you want without having to decrease calories or drop any more body fat.

On non-weightlifting days, I will try to not go over 20% of my total calories in carbohydrates. On training days, I will hit about 40%.

Just some ideas might want to try before dropping your calories. Not sure where you are compared to the pictures in your profile, but without going full white knight, you look pretty amazing already. You have been blessed with a small waist.

Good luck and let us know how things go over the next couple weeks

You aren't far from getting those abs back, for sure.

BTW, my IG is sprnutrition, if anyone is interested in following me. I am always looking for more fitness folks to follow as well. I have also picked up my nutrition business again for some side work to do if you know of anyone that is interested. Having followers on IG really helps with the business too.

Stay at 1500-1600 for another week, I've had times when cutting I lose nothing for a week and a half then suddenly lose 2+ lbs the next week. If you truly have plateaued only option is to drop calories a bit more but 1500 should still be cutting territory for someone active.

Edit: checked out Michelle she looks good on stage but does she walk around with abs like that? Most people prep and flex for shoots.

That seems to be me this week. Averaged very low caloric intake the last 7 days or so, geting leaner in the mirror. Today I lifted and walked around for about 9 hours at work, at 1600 kcals only. Currently feeling bloated af, stomach feels all watery. Probably because of cortisol.

It'll come off eventually in a whoosh. For me weight loss on the scale seems to be pretty sporadic and not linear.

A new study just confirmed that HIIT method of cardio training has the same exact effects as moderate and low intensity cardio, while doing it in much less time. I mean, everything, from fat burning to cardiac health to pulmonary.

If I ever decide doing cardio again, HIIT it is

Morning SCC,

Putting in some hours today to finish up moving my office and a few shop things and should be back to regular work in a few days.

Anyone have any kick ass plans for this weekend?

Weighed in at a new low of 178.2 this morning after hovering around 180-181 for four weeks.

Going to hit a push session today and start building the chairs I've been trying to make for a year. I'm seriously starting today. For real. I just need to start by moving a bunch of plywood by myself, which sucks.

Picks of chair I am copying:

Did legs this morning. RIP.

I was talking to my mate who's a PT about my plateau frustrations. He suggested upping my cals by about 200 for a week to see if it helps to push me back out of it. He also suggested 2 higher days 2 moderate, and 1 low. Gonna give one of these a go to see if it helps

The 2-2-1 is talking about calories? How often do you work out? What's your goal weight and how fat are you away now?
