Unless they are acting out on their supposed racism or homophobia, who cares what they think? Despite popular belief, most people around the world have some degree of racist and homophobic beliefs. That is called basic human nature. This only becomes something worth taking action on if it stops being just thoughts or opinions and actually enters the real world. You can't control what people think or feel.

Wasn't necessarily a shock. I knew people like that exist, but expressing racism and homophobia online is one thing. The misc is for the most part, anonymous. Hearing people talking about in person is another thing and can become a more uncomfortable situation.

Not calling them out on anything. I'm aware the misc has a large number of people who are very passionate about being super right wing, pro racism and pro homophobia. My motto is live and let live. Didn't actually make this thread to start a battle with people here but some people did take it that way.

How is that rationalization? Humans are by design tribalistic; hence why you unconditionally care more about your family and friends than you do the random stranger down the street, and on a bigger level why you care more about people "LIKE YOU" than you do outsiders. Sorry, but that is just how it goes. Given enough exposure, most people who are "homophobic" simply stop caring, which is all you can ask for out of someone. One of my friends (Vietnamese FOB) attended Colorado State, got in relationship with a 41 yo black guy, an army officer (he was an ex Ranger). He wants to marry her but her family back home said no cuz he's black. (I'm sure they wouldn't say no if he was white). SMH @ how racist some people are.

Agreed. If people want to be racist, homophobic or whatever, that's fine but they should keep it to themselves in a work environment. One of the guys was a supervisor too, though he's still new at supervising and inexperienced.

I had a brown manager at my old job, and he was racist as ****. He use to say "man i hate white people", and **** like that. Then he would say like "I guess I shouldn't say that", but he would make racist remarks towards white people again a few days later. Was only there for like 3 months, and I don't really let verbal **** phase me, but I find it funny how people have no problem openly being racist against white people.

Imagine if I said "man I hate black people" out in the open in a workplace lmao. He was the only non-white person in our department too.

If it's your boss and it's directly affecting your work environment, I'd probably report it. Also, you don't always need to be courteous to people like that. Depends on the situation.
