Long story short, dad makes an anniversary party every year with prizes and ****, and this slut who is dating this other guy was in charge of drawing the little pieces of paper with the names of the winners on them.

Basically there's around 35 people working at the company, so the 35 names are put in a glass and then someone keeps drawing the names until everyone has a prize. There are 35 peasant prizes and one big prize every year. So theres always one person that wins 2 things.

The first 35 prizes were poverty except a small flat tv, like 30". Then the big prize was a huge flat tv, well it was 60".

She was in charge of drawing the names, and surprise surprise, she drew him both times for both tvs. Now everyone was like "omg so funny lol such a coincidence", while i was doing the math and calculating the probability of him getting both tvs and well lets just say that bitch is on my aim. Now this woman sucks up to everyone, is nice to everyone, always doing chit chatting and ****, knows about the lives of everyone, well i guess everybodi likes her so nobody suspected of her, but im willing to bet that the money and stuff that has gone missing in the last few months is because the least expected person.

What would you do misc, call her out?

Pretty rustling story chap but it's going to be something you have to prove if you're going to do anything about it.

What is the problem? This sounds like a win win for your dad. If his boyfriend is getting both TVs, your Dad hasn't lost anything and maintains a good rep for his company.

Well yeah, with a mindset like yours is exactly how she's getting away with it. "Oh these things happen".

Bull****. Its a 1/1296 chance. Its way more probable that shes just cheating.

He had a one in 35 chance of getting each tv (in fact higher for the small tv, unless that was the first small prize drawn). He didn't exactly with the national lottery two weeks in a row or something.

lol, women. Not discussing about probability with you after that.

Anyway, yeah maybe im being butthurt. Ill just keep an eye on her. A random person winning the two tvs its a coincidence, and a very rare scenario, but whatever. Her BF winning them? Nah, im just not buying it.

Go ahead and explain how I'm wrong. You said there was a 35 small prizes, and one big prize, and 35 people so one person gets a small price and a big prize. If that's the way it worked then presumably after each person won a small prize their name was taken out of the draw for the next small prizes, then everyone was back in for the big prize.

Otherwise there would have been a bunch of people with 2-3 small prizes and a bunch with none and that's not how you said it happened.

Therefore, if the small tv was the first small prize drawn he had a one in 35 chance of getting it, but say if there had been a bunch already drawn and there was only 12 small prizes and 12 people left then he would have a one in 12 chance at that specific prize etc

1/35 = 3% (2.857) but rounding up)
1/35 x 1/35 = 1/1225
1/1225 = 0.081632%

1 in 1225 isn't 1 in 175 million bad but still pretty insane odds.

He had a one in 35 chance of winning the big TV draw and a one in 35 or better chance at winning the small tv.

Winning one prize does not affect his chance at winning the other. Everyone there had already won a prize, and they all still had the same one in 35 chance of also winning the big TV.

The probability of event one is 1/35
The probability of event two is 1/35
The probability of event one and two is 1/35 x 1/35.

This is how to do the math for two independent events.
Independent Events

Two events are independent if the occurrence of one does not change the probability of the other occurring.

An example would be rolling a 2 on a die and flipping a head on a coin. Rolling the 2 does not affect the probability of flipping the head.

If events are independent, then the probability of them both occurring is the product of the probabilities of each occurring.

Specific Multiplication Rule

Only valid for independent events

P(A and B) = P(A) * P(B)

Go read the last portionof the post you quoted again.

The two events are individual, they don't affect eachother. Whoever ended up winning that tv would've already won a prize.

They all had an equal chance, and since there was 35 of them there that chance was 1/35 for every single one of them.

Am I being trolled right now? Not sure if I'm just falling for this because it's 6 in the morning here lmao
