It might differ by year or source, but consistently one of the most diverse areas in the entire country. Racists like you might not like it here, you'd just see people by skin color and your perception of how they will act based solely on skin color, and with so many, you'd be spinning your head trying to paint a portrait of horrors unique to each one.

This all goes back to the fb discussion for me. It's what I use for all news (subscribed to all kinds of news sources)..

All I see is people spewing hate towards different groups of people and it's discouraging and jades my thoughts. I'd probably be shocked if I ever visited the south and realized my perception is completely wrong. I just get discouraged and put down by all that sh*t

Anything you read on FB or the media in general isn't what reality is.

I live in a small rural county. Bunch of rednecks and farmers in the area. People have their confederate flags in the yard and in the back of their trucks. But you would be surprised at how everyone gets along. I see people helping out others of different color just because they were raised to help others out.

There's no rioting or fighting among ethic groups at all. We see people as people and are willing to go out of our way to lend a hand. Someone broke down on the side of the road? You pull over and see if they need help. We still hold the door open for anyone regardless of color or age.

Yeah, if your perception of Southern states comes from FB then you have the wrong idea.

A part of me has thought this too. I think I mentioned this here before but this one dude came to the station and he has a southern accent, I didn't think he was racist or assume he was racist because he's white, but he seemed nice to me. We talked every time he came in and one day I asked him where he was from and he kind of moved back like what you don't think I'm from around here? And then he says Chicago why? I say because I like your accent and I don't hear it often. He goes yeah I lived in north or South Carolina (I can't remember) for two years growing up and it's stuck with me since. I asked how people were there and I told him my perception of I don't think I'd be safe there. He started chuckling and said, you'd be surprised compared to here they're actually very nice there, they're more friendly..

A part of me really believed that before and after he said that. But you're right the bullsh*t i keep reading and no matter how much I try to comment and oppose the hate and BS from any side, I feel like it does nothing and it's just kind of a hopeless thing.

lol I don't believe in the white people are racist and only they can be racist bullsh*t. There are a lot of racist Mexicans, Arabs, and blacks around here. They'll say any stereotype towards you on social media.

My first racist situation I've been in real life was like a few months ago, ive been at this station since it was bought and I work part time because of school. Everyone who comes knows me and talks to me, this one old black lady comes in and says I deal with the other guy (mind you, I know 99% of our customers bc I've been there for years) while grabbing three bags of chips for a dollar and after tax it's 1.10. She said I usually just pay him tax later and I told her man I am sorry but I can't do that because I'm not the other guy and I'm sorry I don't know you to allow you to say I'll pay you back later. I tend to let people slide with the tax, I just didn't like how she talked to me and was assertive like she ran the place when she came in... anyways, she got irked and then says you racis, just cause I'm black huh? (I asked her how was I racist, I've never used any racial slur) then she ignores my question and says You prolly wasn't even born here.. I bert stared her.. then she goes to grab more chips and then tosses it back and says I was gonna buy some more chips but I'll just go across the street..

She didn't have anymore money is the truth.

How the f*ck are you gonna tell me I'm racist and then tell me I wasn't born here because I'm olive tan LOL.

I don't play games for the story. I really didn't care that Destiny didn't have a story TBH. But the RNG system in Destiny is pure autism. I want to love the game but I hate that they created an RNG system to drive the game rather than letting new content be what drives the game. The whole game is created around an 'gambling addiction' RNG system.

Southern states get a bad rap from MSM and others in general just because we're in the South and the we're supposed to be evil because of the Civil War. LOL. It's nothing like that at all IME.

In these small rural towns where we still have confederate flags and statues, you couldn't find a better group of people to live among regardless of your ethnicity.

I would go as far to say that the places where these people say that the South is racist are probably some of the more racist places you can live. We don't spend our time worrying about being PC and don't really care what you believe. We are just common people that look at you as a human being not a color.

I think southern states get media hate just because we vote conservative and the media of course is quite anti conservative, as much as anything else. Just an attempt to marginalize or demonize your political opponent(s)

well, the whole school segregation stuff didn't paint us in a great light either

the south is just an easy target for the media, painted to be full of ignorant, backwards, racist white trash that is clinging to their guns and religion

Yeah it wasn't the best but I really had fun with the raids, especially VOG. When I finally got that there gallyhorn I was so pumped.
