Soccer will be the #1 sport in USA in 20 years, here's the reason why (pic)

A lot of Americans are slowly begining to realize that the NFL, MLB, and NBA are just huge advertisement programs rather than sporting leagues. I've heard hardcore Football fans talk about how they dislike how the NFL is only like 11 minutes of actual sporting. How sad is that? Like the whole other 2 hours is just filled with advertisement.

Anyways, reasons why Soccer will be #1 in 20 years:

-It's growing, there are new teams being created every year by a lot of rich people. It's only a matter of time before NFL, MLB, and NBA owners start to turn to Soccer. Major League Soccer is expecting a new team from LA and Miami. Just recently, NYC, Minnesota, Orlando, and Atlanta created new teams in the league.

-Soccer is more popular than people think. Every summer, when teams from overseas visit the USA to play friendlies and other events, the games sell out and break records. For example, there was a game between Barcelona and Juventus in NJ this summer that made it's way to being one of the biggest sporting events in NJ & NY history.

-Most kids these days aging from like 4-8 play Soccer. Obviously a lot of them will turn to other sports when they get older, but with how popular Soccer is among younger kids, there's no doubt that there's going to be a huge influx of soccer fans in the near decade or two.

This image here is the attendance of a normal average Major League Soccer match between two teams. Keep in mind, this is not some kind of special game, just a normal league game.



If the media supported Soccer as much as it supported the NFL, Soccer would be the #1 sport in USA. But good ol' uncle sam will not let that happen considering Soccer matches on television shows more sporting rather than advertisements.

P.S. The term "Football" is common in regards to Soccer in USA. This can be seen in the names of MLS teams and upcoming MLS teams where the "FC" in the team names stand for "Football" club. Also, even in commentary for MLS games, some commentators use the term "football" when referring to Soccer.

Other than college basketball I prefer watching soccer than anything else. Cant stand all the stupid fuking truck/beer/pizza/cable ads for football

You don't need grass. I don't imagine it taking over traditional American ghettos because the NFL and NBA are huge in that culture. But it has definitely taken over more diverse inner city neighborhoods where there are a lot of immigrants. Soccer will eventually take over suburban America, there is no doubt about that. The African American ghettos like in Chicago, Detroit, etc, and the White country sides like in the south and other rural areas, will take some time to make the transition.

I agree with OP because I'm sick of the commercial breaks every 2 minutes during football games. I'll never stop watching SEC college football, but I don't watch any other games, let alone NFL.

Haven’t actually watched a super bowl in probably a decade. Last time I tried it was like 3.5 hours of commercials and people actually got excited about them. Fuk that.

I doubt it, football (soccer) is so boring to watch compared to American sports like NFL and Baseball, I think the reason so many people are into it is just because they were raised with it sort of like a religion from birth. Watching guys tackle each other and perform strategic plays is much more fun and exciting to watch than watching a bunch of *******s pass a ball around a field for 90 minutes and fake injuries.

Actually, their parents are making this decision. Some of the reasons being that it's safer than Football and you don't need specific genetics like basketball. In terms of youth development, Soccer is a great sport for that. A lot of parents put their kids in Soccer teams solely for the benefit of the child's cardio health.

It will def grow but it won't usurp the NFL and NBA. Americans need fast paced action and a lot of points or otherwise the sport doesn't offer any thrill to them.

The 1-0 score argument is something I will never understand. I'm sorry but you must have a very short attention span and suffer from ADHD if you really need to see dozens of goals scoring for you to feel joy. Soccer is more than just goals. Defending is just as important as attacking in Soccer. There's really no other way to put it. You have to use your brain and realize that there's two big nets, one on each team. There are two teams on the field, both teams have to defend their net. With 11 men on that field, scoring isn't always easy. That's one thing that make the game competitive. Another thing is, even if a game goes 0-0, there's still points being made from that game. A 0-0 game does not equal a 0 point game.

**Eat lots and lots of birds. The smaller the bird, the more compact its protein content. Parrots are great sources for protein.**

It may well happen but not in the next 20 years.

I'm just not sure that American clubs will ever be able to attract the world's top talent and that's what it will take to lift soccer to the top of the sporting pile stateside.

There is so much prestige attached to playing for European clubs with over a century of history and there is enough money in the European game to keep them. The Chinese are throwing cash around and only mercenaries and old pros looking for a final payday are interested (admittedly NY is a far more attractive city to ply your trade than Shanghai).

Soccer's going to be more popular because parents will quickly realize it's not worth registering their kids in football considering all the CTE and brain damage risks.

Don't get mad because your fruity sport is boring.

Hockey can go 1-0 and be a blast because the playing field isn't half a mile long and the action is consistent. Watching dudes jog for hours is boring pal.

I'd much rather hockey become our #1 sport. The sport where they are allowed to fist fight, which is a stark contrast to soccer where *******s pretend injuries as part of their strategy.

Sports are pretty laughable in the US. People take them so seriously, despite the fact that it's mostly advertising as OP mentioned.

Americans can't comprehend why Soccer is the #1 sport in the world, because most of us think the sport is gay and boring af.

My niece tried soccer and she HATED it, she rather play basketball instead.
