[QUOTE=AyMayne;1520642071]I'm not in the 9 to 5 yet, but my main concern is being too mentally and physically fatigued after work to really do anything. I get mentally drained easily and when that happens, I don't care about reading, I don't care about socializing, I lose my motivation, and I really only have the energy for low effort things, which tends to be internet and watching some shows. I suspect it's the same way for most people which is why most people tend to be depressed, or fat, or unproductive.
I already feel drained after an 8 hour shift at a job where there's zero stress or difficulty and all I have to worry about is boredom. And that's with doing everything people tell you to do when you complain you're tired... Clean eating, drinking a fukton of veggies via my juicer everyday, regular lifting and cardio, taking every vitamin or adaptogen I can think of, daily meditation to lower stress, getting lots of sleep. The only way I've been able to counter this is by abusing stims that I can't talk about on Misc.
I'd probably prefer it if I had 3 or 4 days with really long shifts and then extra days off because free time after a shift barely counts for me because my brain becomes such a potato.[/QUOT
I know this feel bro
When I go into work at 630 am I'm pumped after my work out and ready to go. But after I sit there in my cube for a couple hours I start to feel trapped and my brain starts to act all stupid. By the end of the day I just need to be alone for an hour or so because of how mentally fatigued I am.

working in an office is pretty great imo unless you're with a chit company. have my own office with a door, get to meet with a lot of clients and the work while plentiful is rather easy. only work 7 hours with a 1 hour lunch. will take the office life over tradie life or sitting at home all day by myself. it's not the office's fault you are bored and have no work/no interesting work to do. if you don't like the actual work you do or face no challenges, get another fukking job.

goat job is a mix. some inside office work while being able to go outside and look at cool things. jobs like construction inspection. being inside all day is boring. being outside in the heat or cold all day sucks.

There are a lot of moody ppl there and it seems like every conversation is surface based. Not to mention you're confined and have to be professional and there are a lot of women around.
The office is like being stuck in your parents house all weekend or something. You just want to escape from the boredom and annoying bickering but you can't.

i agree with this. if you hate your job you should at least have an active social life. if you dont have either then suicide will probably be on your mind.

I balance that with enjoying time with the GF and friends, going out to the many nightlife options LA has to offer, miscing, watching cool shows, etc. There is so much to do and see in life, being stagnant becomes a personal choice tbh. The only thing I'll say is that the whole social media / virtual life in 2017 could lend itself to people becoming disconnected. BUT there is a remedy: go out and talk to people. I meet so many interesting new people every time I go out it's hard to not feel entertained.

Is it just me, or do offices have the weirdest vibe, even toxic. Ime the biggest egos, the know it alls, and the kids asses are clustered in the office. Gives the place a creepy vibe, where u need to say the right things, people waiting on certain situations where the air is sucked right out.

Everytime I walk out of my office I feel like a zombie brain dead, couldn't even hold a convo if I wanted to. Can't be sitting and staring at a screen like that, I feel my testosterone dropping.

Its not just office jobs. Any place where you are forced to be in the same location doing tasks you dont want to do for the majority of your day is gonna suck. Talk to nurses, doctors, other health care people every day, no one likes going to work and no one feels great after it. The people that do are just pretending for their own cope.
Human beings arent meant to work 40+ hours a week, its just not how we evolved. We evolved as social animals capable of doing a bunch of diverse tasks for survival, different tasks everyday. Not sitting inside 300 days a year with our heads in a computer, etc.

Just started my first office job a few weeks ago while waiting to graduate with an accounting degree. Honestly feel like either joining the military or learning a skill after college like electrician because the stuff I've been doing I feel is useless (taxes).
I've been thinking hard about what my possibilities are after I graduate. My traditional plan was to take the cpa exam over 6 months then go to fall recruiting again next year and most likely easily secure a big 4/mid cpa job as long as I have all or parts passed.
But the more time I spend in an office, the more I think about doing something else.
But yea, grass always greener etc. Most people can't find a way to make money with their passion. My passion is the outdoors/hiking etc but can't really get paid to do that besides park ranger but I don't want to be a park cop.

I wasn't really asking for advice or specifically singling you out, more so stating that sometimes it's not really a case of making use of your free time because mental fatigue is a legitimate thing and the average person lacks the resilience to be able to do much more other than rot and maybe get a workout in after a long, soul-sucking shift.

Also factor in how overly complicated modern life is, even though it's easier in a lot of ways. We may not have to hunt for food or find shelter, but we have to micromanage so much chit. And the human brain adjusts to bring you to a sense of equilibrium relative to your surroundings, so that you can notice any positive or negative deviations to the norm and know what to pursue or avoid. Without any legitimate threats to our survival, the bar for what constitutes a threat is much lowered, so things like dealing with bills, or the stresses of micromanaging every little thing, or managing a social life seem like so much bigger of a deal.
Human productivity also tends to drop after about six hours, so whenever people brag about their long hours, they're also including a lot of filler hours where they're not doing much or being less productive. And even if they were doing work all that time, depending on the work, the drop in productivity due to diminished cognitive functioning and increased stress is only going to result in lesser results over the long run. And then there's Parkinson's law which suggests that work expands to fill the time allotted to it. But depending on the job and who you work for, efficiency and results sometimes don't seem to matter as much as being on the clock, because it's what we're used to and a lot of people can't comprehend doing things differently.
What really rustles my jimmies is that once automation becomes really widespread, until enough people are fuked over and fed up with the system, the higher ups are probably still going to find ways to nickel and dime us and keep us working 40 hours a week.
For any brahs in this thread who are interested in what a world would be like without this wagecuck bullchit, check out the book "Utopia for Realists" by Rutger Bregman. It's a quick 2 - 4 hour read talking about how things like shorter work weeks and universal basic income might be implemented in the future, especially once technology and automation are fully up to speed.

I'm at least lucky enough to get to listen to music or audiobooks on my phone to keep me sane -- since I'm not interacting with customers. Today I listed to "Relentless - Timothy Grover." The guy who was a coach for Michael Jordan, Kobe, Dwayne Wade, etc. That's what keeps me sane!

Work 8-4 mon-fri, can take laptop and work anywhere, café, etc. Every holiday you can think of off... see boss once a month, wear shorts and a T. People come to work and go home, no stress. I do the meaningful things with my time off. Dont mind my office life.

If you believe you have tried everything and nothing works and that you don't even need to ask for advice anymore, then guess what? You will never improve beyond your current station.
You sound like you have already given up and checked out. Good luck with your life bro, hope you land on your feet even though you have a really chitty attitude.

I know it's horrible when I instantly feel better after leaving work. It's toxic like nothing I've ever seen before. Everyone looks unhappy. I think the Miserable ppl bring everyone else down and it's like a chain reaction. Everyone is either very quiet or has some kind of ego. Lots of know it alls and just weird people in general there. I hear the dumbest conversations in there which is why I stay to myself

Office jobs do suck for making new friendships. My rule is to always find jobs with lots of people and make sure they are around your age group or younger. Working with old people or in a small office is the worst thing you can do for you in the long run.
Kindness is all that matters in life

nah, some office jobs are actually fulfilling, interesting and never get boring.
It depends on the role you have. It's all relative.

I'd like an office job tbh.
Every job I've done has been toil outdoors. Including the military.
I currently work 84 hrs a week 7 days a week (but only 6 months of the year) and I've always wanted a mon-fri 9-5.
But it would have to be a managerial role, just lol @ wasting your life tapping away in some cube like a drone.
