Started lifting in HS - took break for years and got fat. Been at it since 2012.

Still can't do 3 plates, I'm a failure

I still believe that an average men should hit 3 plates in 2-3 years of lifting with proper diet and programming

How often does someone start out with proper programming? Started lifting at the end of high school, was on some ridiculous bro split just like all my friends. If I'd known about our Lord and Savior Mark Rippetoe back then things would have been different.

It's true but now their is so much info. Someone not underweight can search google and find random chit. But even just doing 5x5 twice a week for bench with random accessories would get someone there within 3 years again if they eat properly

315 was a huge mental block, could hit 300 for reps and struggle with 315. I recommend shooting for say 275x5 or 300x3 before you attempt 315. Unless you're just moving right along and it's not a mental block for you.

My strength is basically the same as it was at the 9 month mark after lifting. I guess I can do more reps.

Went from 140 to 210 lbs though. I figured out high reps and pump worked out way better for the aesthetics aspect.

I remember thinking I was weak when I could only bench 3 plates because I was training with actual athletes. Got up to 385, still didn't feel THAT strong. Go to a regular gym and realized that is pretty unusual.

For reference, one guy was powercleaning 515 @ 185#...surely 100% natty.

I've done 275x5 (maybe 6 one time?) but never more than a double with 295... Not sure whether that's atypical or not for most people. I could probably hit a 315x1 at the moment.

Haven't spent too many of my lifting years on strict powerlifting, though. I always get bored of it too soon for some reason.
