Am I the only one who lols when they see someone buying a 10+ y/o luxury/super car?

Worst financial decision ever just to get a couple looks from clueless sloots and people they don’t even know. Srs

if it’s a collectors item it’s a different story. Most of the time it’s someone who wants to “look” like they have money.

Brb $20k for a 10 year old BMW that’s out of warranty

Sometimes you just dig a specific car but can’t always afford it.

In the late 90s I had a early 80s S class. There was no way for me to get the new model and I was too young in the 80s but I always loved those tough big engine S benzes, and when a dude was selling it and I test drove it, that chit was a beast and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I can definitely understand it.

If you can afford the upkeep then sure. But I know most people that did this, end up facing reality when something breaks and they are clueless about working on cars.

As long as they know what they're getting into it's no issue. Can't say I feel bad for anyone who buys a car that cost nearly 6 figures new for a fraction of that and not have money put aside for maintenance.

I got an 04 Porsche cayenne twin turbo, you mad OP. As an engineer I perform all of my own maintenance. Parts are for the most part on par with all others, except for specialties.
I've done rotors and brake pads and oil change and replaces the side rear view mirror for about 400, I got quotes and just for the brakes they wanted 2000.
It is simply the best vehicle I've ever owned or driven, tons of power and the utility of an suv

No because the E36 and E39 bimmers are really nice cars and I'd way rather have one thank some chitty CVT corolla even if it is brand new off the lot.

It's a car you can work on. A car with history. A car designed to be a driver's car, not some hunk of metal decked with plastic to get you from A to B.

knew this one guy who bought a 2005 bmw with 150k miles on it for ~15k and was bragging about it. nobody could figure out if he was trolling or if he was really that stupid

brb outdated tech, worse fuel mileage, plus it's a bmw so good luck with the maintenance. guy who sold it to him must have been LOLing to the bank

agreed if you are barely getting by/living paycheck to paycheck but will always like the earlier models of bimmers (e46 m3, e60 m5, e92 m3) or benz (W204 or W205 c63 for example)

I don't judge people by their cars. I have seen too many people with long money drive older cars that you would consider poverty. Hve also seen a lot of people who were car poor from heavy payments.

My 2002 E53 OP. 1st BMW. They have this neat new thing called the internet now, where you can join forums with guys that know a lot more than you do about your car. The guys help you work through issues, hell if they're fairly nearby they'll even come over for a few beers and calibrate your ride height and decipher your error codes.
