Given this idea by Mr. Bourbon. I know a lot of us brahs/brahettes are getting up before the sun is even awake to get our training in. Great idea to start a thread to just discuss motivation, training, tips/tricks. It's a rough grind for sure.

I'm up at 3:45 Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri during the week and usually 6-7 on Saturday to get my training in. I'll bump to 6 days when cutting usually. Tiring AF sometimes because I can't get to bed earlier than 10PM usually. 10:30 is probably the normal. I know more sleep would drastically improve my lifting.

Absolutely in on this.

5am crew during the week. One nice thing about getting up this early is that even on days when you "sleep in" you're still up by like 6:30 or 7, lol.

The biggest benefit to me is that no matter what the day throws at you, you had time for what matters to you. Used to lift after work and if friends invited you out or the day got away from you, something had to get cut and it was usually the workout. Driving in to work for the day knowing you've already accomplished something important is the GOAT feeling.

I try to be in bed by 9, or 10 at the latest. Sucks turning in that early sometimes, but I need my 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

Not possible for a lot of us brah. I agree with you, but many of us have kids/families which take up basically all the time after work. Early AM is the only way we get it done. In a perfect world I'd prefer lifting at noon-1PM.

Feel absolutely terrible working out first thing in the AM. Then I'm hungry as f*ck the rest of the day.

I know I'm sounding like a bitch, but I love working out after work when I have 2+ meals in me already, and can crush it.

It took me about a month to really adjust to it. Now its second nature.

I didnt' go this AM however. I woke up and saw its -8 out, and the wind sounded like a hurricane. I don't have my daughter tonight, and no plans so I'm going to go after work today. It's going to be interesting to see the performance difference. I haven't' training late in the date in over a year.

Can't really argue with this one to be honest. I have pretty good stamina in the morning so doing reps is not an issue, but maxing out is not a morning affair. If you're powerlifting or doing a program that uses pyramid style lifts (i.e. 1-3 rep range) I can definitely see your point.

I've hit PR's in the morning, but I have to be feeling it that day. I get up around 4 to be in the gym around 5ish. Train fasted with caffeine, I like working out early because less *******s in the gym, and I feel like its better for me while cutting. The only bad thing is I have nothing else to do for the rest of the day now.

You don't sound like a bitch, everyone has what works for them. Sometimes hard to drag myself out of bed but winning that will power battle at the start of the day helps me stay motivated all day long.

It definitely worked better for me cutting. My cut from 265-214 was all AM training. I've hit a few PRs like you said, but it was rare thing. I may hit some rep PRs or something, but a true 1RM, not happening.

Miss seeing the yoga pant wearing HBBs however.

It's all a mind game (for me.) If you're working out after work you're lifting through frustrations, bullchit at work, home drama, and then you have to deal with more of it when you get back home again. When you lift in the early AM you're nothing but a blank slate without baggage.

Training fasted with coffee and EC helps as well.
Very true. A stressful day at work can really ruin an evening training session. I abuse my caffeine in the AM for sure, I wouldn't be able to get going without it. When I'm not cutting I always have 3 rice cakes with PB2 and banana slices on it as soon as I wake up as well.

9/10 times I don't have a problem getting out of bed. The key is not to think about it, or snooze, or just chill in the warm bed, etc. I literally jump out of bed as soon as I wake up and go wash my face. Pretty much always works.

It actually makes your day better too. Half these *******s are gruggy and chugging coffee at 9am, I'm pumped and good to go. It definitely makes a different beyond the gym.

However lifting/running after a frustrating day has it's own stress relieving benefits in my experience. Nothing like beating the chit out of your body to take your mind off the bullcrap.

Up at 4:30 AM and at the gym by 5:30 M-F. Feel lethargic the rest of the day now if I don’t workout in the morning. No excuse to miss a workout at the end of the day, I’ve learned to just get up and do it.

Only “problem” is that I am in bed by 10 at the latest, now earlier than that since I’m making more of an effort to read before going to sleep.

This is key ^^ You cannot snooze. Put your alarm clock across the room if you can't wake up with one alarm. I personally have no issue, but I know people who snooze 5-7 times.

Going to try this next week. Right now I get the dogs around the block, then just sip a black coffee while I warm up on the bike for 10m (30 if I'm doing cardio). I don't usually eat big breakfasts but I think I need some fuel for the workouts.

Gotta say, 430AM Leg days are brutal. I find that to be the hardest workout. I've have better success pre exhausting with extensions and curls as opposed to squatting first.

Back at it again today brahs. On days like today when I don’t feel like getting up and going out in the cold I just remember that each day gets me one step closer to reaching my goals.

Mirin. Definitely hard to get outside when it's cold. Took the dogs for a long walk at 6am. It's in the 40s here which is insane for Florida. Then did this 30 day beginner yoga series I've been doing on Amazon Prime. Mobility of Piss, hoping to change that.

Was actually positive 10 degrees here this morning. Warmest it's been in two weeks. Chest workout didn't go to badly. Really feeling the life stress though. I'm trying hard to minimize it, but man it hasn't let up.

Temps going back up to the 30s and 40s this week thank god.

I always find Monday to be the toughest workout because I never sleep good sunday night after the weekend. I typically end up with only 4.5 hours of sleep or so.

Officially done squatting heavy in the AMs. Today I started with leg extensions, then to leg press, then squatted. Obviously had to use less weight but I did reps of 10-12 and felt a million times better. Overall leg workout was great.

Knee is also feeling fantastic even with a high volume leg workout. 10/10 day today.

I had a setup in my basement for awhile. I didn't have the same motivation as I did at the gym. Do you get good lifts in at home?

Alarm did not go off at 5am (my fault) but woke up by 5:30 naturally. Waking up this early sucks sometimes but it's awesome when "sleeping in" still means getting a ton done before sunup.

Done that a few times. I have my alarm set for 3:45 but I routinely wake up at about 3:30-3:40. Rages me because then I just sit there for 5 minutes knowing it's almost time to wake up while my fiancé is fast asleep.
