I need some dental work pretty bad.

I have a landscaping business. I'm going to contact local dentists and see of one wants to trade landscaping for teeth.

I have no issue with it.

When I was little my grandfather had a big accounting practice in Chapel Hill. He did lots of barter.

If I wanted shoes I walked into the shoe store grabbed a pair showed them what I was taking and walked out. If I needed a haircut I would go in the barber shop get a haircut say thanks and walk out.

He did this all over town. Tires, mechanics, plumbers etc.

My parents always raised me to believe that nothing in this life is free. It hurts very badly to come to the realization that they were wrong. Very very sad.

Do you not think if she shoots a video featuring the hotel and it's amenities travel chanel style that that's not good positive marketing for the hotel?

That's how that industry works brsoki, back straches for back scratches.

That "bill" just shows the owner is pretentious, but fwiw she shouldn't have asked for "free" accommodation. Should have asked if they offer discounted rates in exchange for favorable reviews or features on social media. That stuff all costs money anyways.

Right now, the owner probably wins favor with a few thousand cranks who hate entitled millennials who probably wouldn't be customers anyways, while they could have won favor with tens of thousands of her followers who are interested in travel. They're lucky she has such a low sub count or it could have backlashed on them.

now imagine if that girl came to you and said, i need my front and backyard landscaped and a weekly cut for a month. i'll give you a shoutout on instagram. would you take that deal? there is 0% guarantee you generate ANY new business from it. and you would have to get at least 2-3 new clients to break even.

If he didn't like it the correct response should have been I'm sorry but social media is not in our current marketing strategy at this time so politely decline your offer. However we would love to have you as a guest here in our hotel and I'll be glad to give you the best service possible.

Or if he liked the idea he could have just made a simple professional counter offer while I can't give you free accommodation I would be glad to exchange your services for a 30% discount off of our normal booking rates if you would like to discuss this further please let me know.
exactly... lots of misc don't realize how well influencer marketing actually works and is now part of marketing strategies.. strategies that i propose to my clients every day.

let's say the total expense for EVERYTHING that is a part of the stay was 1-1.5k per night.. she has 150k+ followers, that's a really good deal in terms of total impressions they receive for their business, not only that they could use that content that SHE created for their own social.

him banning bloggers was a bold move that i would personally never do, the exposure you get for the small cost works in the hotels favor 10 fold.

your thought process is no different than a billboard, how do you track impressions? spend 2k a month for a billboard you think people will see but have 0% guarantee to generate ANY new business from it. and you would have to get at least 2-3 new clients to break even.

you clearly haven't seen her videos on youtube. all you'll be getting is shaky cellphone video in selfie mode talking about the place. she has ZERO skill in the production dept. you think any of her teenager followers can afford a place like that? lol.

If I didn't like the deal. Then I would simply politely decline her offer or make a counter offer.

I wouldn't act insulted like the hotel owner and come up with some smart ass response saying should I tell my employees to work for free. When in fact if he pays for a TV ad he doesn't ask his employees to chip in and pay for it. It's a business expense he's willing to endure in exchange for potential future gross revenue.

Now for me in particular I'm local only people on her chanel won't be flying in to use my services so I would automatically know it won't work.

But why would I get angry at someone making a respectful offer to me for anything?

If I get hit on by a gay guy or ugly woman I don't get angry I just politely decline.

Getting an influencer with 85k followers to promote your location based hotel (ie one hotel) is not going to bring in any business whatsoever. Of her 85k followers, how many are really going to go to Dublin, and how many are going to actually go to stay at this hotel because of her? its likely that none are. Influencers are only good for business that are selling a product that can be shipped to the customer.

Have to agree with Leo here. The guy could've just said "no were not interested" and leave it at that. Her mail wasen't weird and was just a proposal. The guy then thought it was funny to make fun of the girl and is ironically kinda being a attention whore right now.

This is assuming his FB post was the first time telling her no (so before she made it public he was "bullying" her).

with a billboard, you have to look at different conditional factors.

location, traffic density, neighborhood affluence, target market. plus you get to control your message.

Hello,

My name is VoxExMachina, I am a world renown internet moderator and fitness writer; my threads have been viewed over 3.5 million times. I am planning on visiting your area soon and noticed you own a very expensive resort. I would be wiling to feature you in my next thread in exchange for free airfare, accommodations, food, drink, and at least 4 virgins (rated at least 8.0/10). If you include a private yacht for my use while there, I'll also ban anyone who negatively mentions your resort on our massive internet forum.

This is a limited time offer, since I've already contacted your competitors as well. First come, first served.

influencer marketing is indeed a good marketing strategy, but it doesn't mean it works for EVERY business. if you're a consultant, you should know that already. each business is different and they all require different strategies (but i'll admit, for the vast majority of businesses, influencer marketing can definitely help).

but like what LaCosaNostra90 mentioned, this hotel is a location-based business, and it's very unlikely that any of the chick's followers would ever even go to the city where the hotel is located (let alone even go to the hotel itself). now, if the influencer herself was from the same city and her content was relevant to things in her area, then maybe -- but this bish is a 'beauty' influencer.

plus, this hotel (and owner) is notorious for things like this (they pulled a similar stunt with a vegan or w/e before), so they know what they're doing on the publicity front, and i'm sure that pays way better than using an 'influencer' with a tiny following (and yes, 80k on IG is indeed a small following).

it's no different with influencer marketing, you can track your metrics, you know her traffic density, use her content, have a target market (if he/she is an influencer in your field, in this case she does travel blogging.. which fits.)

you can also engage with audience, build YOUR following via their instagram. if she blogs about you that's free SEO and back links to YOUR site, thru traffic from her blog to your website/social..there's so many things you can do digitally..

That would be a bad deal because she doesnt market in the landscaping industry. But in this case she is a travel youtuber approaching a hotel, so they share the same niche.

But I'm not defending her, she was a little silly to ask for FREE accommodation with only 86k followers.

lol most her vids have 30k'ish views and this one has 2 million. Her sub count went up by 12k
