How the fuk am I supposed to afford a child?

Middle class
Wife and I both work
25% Tax bracket
Cant afford a house
Would have to settle for condo with HOA's forever
Trying to make sure we can afford a kid before we have one.

Either would have to pay for child care which would pretty much neutralize my wifes paychecks.

Or keep her home and try to manage on my higher income.

Even then, the cost of a kid is like $12-15k/year, who the fuk has that lying around when the middle class is getting @ssfuked by taxes and health insurance.

The math doesn't work, especially when you are supposed to save for retirement, put away money for college, and also try to save.

Does not compute.

Just have the kid anyways, everyone else does
Entire NYPD should go on strike. You'll see then how quickly the mayor changes his tone.

No the math doesn't work and this is honestly why most people with middle class incomes shouldn't have kids because you shouldn't have kids when you can't afford them. I commend you for realizing that op

Of course that means the only real answer to your question is to move up in your career and make more money

If you keep doing math, you'll never be able to afford kid(s)

It really doesn't.

Reminds me of the first 10 minutues of Idiocracy. This smart upper-middle class couple put off having kids due to costs and the economy while all the poor people kept breeding like rabbitts so in the future the entire population was filled with the dumbest people hence Idiocracy. lol.

The answer cant be not to have a kid.

That's pretty much the sole purpose of life.
I'm 6 months away from paying off my student loans, to go back and take out another $40k for a masters and another 4 years of education is almost foolish, but that seems to be the only way to effectively raise your earning power aside from starting a business and risking all your capital, even then the statistics of success are relatively low.

Seems easier to just quit at life and leech off the government like every one else.

There's 7 billion people here and millions of orphans, at this particular time in human history, it is not our sole purpose of life.

If you really want kids, downsize somewhere else. Move to a cheaper area. Buy used cars, etc. My wife and I are raising 2 kids on a middle class income and doing just fine (saving for retirement, own a house, go on vacation, etc). I work in the suburbs south of Pittsburgh but we live in a small town 30 miles south of where I work. Our house cost 1/3 of what a house costs near my work. If you want kids and you're not a $10k/day CEO, you'll have to make sacrifices elsewhere.

It's the sole purpose of life itself, biologically speaking. Natural Selection says we need to eat, hunt and fukk. Humans have just created more modern means of doing so. As Dr. Ian Malcolm says in Jurassic Park, "Life always finds a way."

If you yourself don't want to have a kid. That's great. Keep doing you. If you really want to have a kid. Do something about it.

Learn to budget.

Your wife already has a house so why do you need a condo?
Cut back on BS you waste money on.
Daycare can be expensive unless you shop around or she finds a job to work weekends.
Quit getting stupid fuking degrees, you're already in the hole from your initial degree so why add another $40K when you're still working the **** job you got post college.
Don't listen to the in the closet ******* and movie quoting *******s, if you want a kiddo man up and make it work...stop crying and act like a man.

MOST NOT ALL people saying don't have kids or they don't want them are coping from their own misfortunes.

Unless there's a huge paradigm shift and as a global community, we change our rate of consumption, the world is seriously gonna be ****ed up. I feel having a child is much more hassle than it's worth and is not fair on the child.

You're talking about wild animals and back when we were hunter-gatherers and had to pop out 14 kids because 12 of them would die from disease, the elements, warring tribes, and predatory animals. Now days, not so much. Modern man has broken through that biological barrier. If 2 billion women decided they didn't want o have kids, there would still be "billions" of people on this planet. Its hard to conceptualize how large of a number that is but its really quite staggering when you consider how large of an animal we are. Its not that big of a deal when you hear about a billion sparrows or a billion ants, but a billion humans is a LOT Of phuckin humans (figuratively and literally).

When animals go into "heat" or when people get horny its not because they want to pop out offspring, its because they want to release that sexual energy, a kid or a pup or a calf or whatever animal it is, is just the result of having sex.

Find a wife that wants to be a stay at home mom and would actually do a good job at it.

I wouldn't even entertain the thought of grad school if I had to pay out of my own pocket, let alone take a loan while trying to have a kid.
