Neighbor at this apt is harassing me and I'm fukin going insane

I have a downstairs neighbor that I've known for 3 years now

He's probably 58 or something years old

I've hung out with him and another neighbor that moved recently and had drinks and talked a bit in the past

About 5 months ago his carburetor broke in his truck and he doesn't want to pay to get it fixed so I started giving him rides once in a while to church or the grocery store and he'd give me a few dollars for gas money

That has now evolved into him calling me every day while he knows I'm at school or work or otherwise just not at home to ask when I'm home for a ride to the liquor store and he has stopped giving me gas money

He will call multiple times if I don't answer, as I'm typing this post I'm at home and he is calling for the third time now

If I'm at home he will knock and knock after I don't answer the phone

If I try to sneak inside my apartment he will pop out and corner me in the hallway so lately I've been going straight to the bar after work/school until late at night just to hide

I'm starting to go insane from this as I've been scared to take my trash out or anything and I don't even want to be at home because of him

It really bothered me recently after I saw through his fake niceness and things like when he'd call and ask how I was doing and things he actually doesn't care at all and just sees me as a free taxi

I'm a private quiet person and I only have one friend I talk to and I need a place that is my own where I can unwind and relax in peace and I don't have that now and I'm going insane. I just want to be left alone.

What do ?

I don't care what he is the more passive you play, the more he will chase. Then on top of that when you do see him he you will end up having to validate what you do with your own private time. It's not about confrontation, it's about asserting yourself, and setting boundaries. He's using you, and he knows you wont say no, so he just keeps pushing until he gets what he wants.

Pick up the phone and say "WHAT?!?!" and he's probably going to take a step back, and ask for your help, to which you say "No." and when he asks "Why?"...say "Because i'm not a taxi, but you seem to use me like one." and hangup the phone.

How do I become more assertive and confrontational ? I've had similar problems before and people like to see me as a target.
