Messi without barca is literally the spain team that won 3 tournaments in a row, plus neymar, suarez etc (at the time of their latest cl win they represented the next 2 best players in the world after ronaldo and messi)

Basically am a casual here. Not a huge soccer brah, but when I see that Ronaldo is playing in a big match it's must see TV for me. I basically just shake my head and think "of course" when I see that he scores a goal in big games.
That's the MJ feel to it that casuals can tune in and see all this dude does is score goals in the biggest moments. I get so confused by euro Bros who care so much about how a player "looks" when they scored the goal.

Saying that, I still think for all round impact, Messi has the edge.
Their goalscoring records are very similar in all comps over their career, but I feel Messi is comfortably the better passer.
So Ronaldo best striker ever, and Messi best player ever as he plays in a more false 9 type role.
Oh and Ronaldo got injured in the first few minutes of the European Championship final and had to go off, and Portugal still won... so not quite carried a bunch of nobodies.

I lol hard as fuk when people mention Maradona & Pele has greatest players ever. People are delusional as fuk have you ever even watched their games? People couldn't even defend. Messi & Ronaldo would do what Pele & Maradona did except 5x better, they wouldn't even need 10 other players.
Football in Maradona's and Pele's time was a fuking joke. Difficulty not even once

I won't rank them since I never saw them play besides the highlights
but at least Maradona played in an era when football had already reached a certain level imo

Messi so far this season has more goals and more assists than Ronaldo. Brb scoring back to back to back free kicks whereas Ronaldo has been struggling with them despite taking every fkin single one of them lol.

I agree that with the post that said messi does insane chit and by far has the best ball control of any footballer ever, but for ronaldo to drive with hardwork and brutality to keep up with messi, its insane in and of itself.
imo Ronaldo is more a complete athlete and leader than messi, he pushes his team to keep going and comes thru to seal the deal. Perfect example, the 2016 cl madrid were down 2-0 to wolfsburg. Ronaldo comes thru with a hatrick to get the team thru. If he doesnt score those 3 goals then they never have the chance to go on to win it all.
Special shout out to Navas too, some great saves that match. I don't see why the board want courtois or de'gea to replace him
Ronaldo's also mentally stronger than messi imo (depsite his cockyness), dont forget when messi missed the penalty and lost the copa america to chile, he cried out that he quit the national team and didnt want to play anymore, I understand he must have been suffering but come on man, wheres the winner attitude, the hunger to want to come back stronger and better.
Meanwhile, when ronaldo was injured in the beginning of the euro final, he wanted to push thru and keep playing. That difference is vastly important imo. you can even see it in the video above, he scores and urges his teammates, keep your head strong or some chit like that
edit: got you on spread op, the discussion in the thread has been pretty good, regardless of who backs who as the goat

the only thing cr7 has going for him is his insane mentality, if Messi had that he would undeniably be the GOAT, now it's still somewhat up to debate with Pele and Maradona
last two seasons Real has been all Kroos Modric Marcelo as well, they were easily their best players in the top games

Messi is about to win his 6th Ballon D'Or and a potential treble while Madrid and Ronaldo might just finish the season empty handed. Another bitter pill for you to swallow.

If you read those stats, Messi's twice as effective a finisher outside the box, which is insane. The point of these kind of stats isn't to say one is better than the other, but to highlight the differences in their roles and play styles. This isn't as clear cut a comparison as comparing two center forwards, imo.
There's a good reason Messi scores less in the box: he's small. Ronaldo has that physical ability.
or I guess I should say, less headers, not sure about in-the-box goals overall.
