Even then in 2018 most professional work environments paying over 6 figures, especially in tech, are all about casual. Exceptions obviously being in Law, Medicine, or a select few other professions that require uniforms.

Just lol at Joe Schmoe only making 60k per year having to wear a suit in his cubicle.

No roll bread. It is legit ridiculous the amount of low paying jobs that are forced to wear professional attire because their position is treated more seriously than it really is. A lot of the time they aren't even customer facing. Wouldn't work in a place that hadn't adapted to modern times and still required a suit to sit around in a cube.

Customer facing employees should look presentable, that doesn't always mean professionally dressed. Outside sales guys or other people who are representing the company should be in uniform.

Other than that, who the hell cares if Nathan in Cubicle 3 updating a spreadsheet wears a suit or jeans and a polo?

I agree OP. My office is very casual, but whenever I know I'll be seeing clients I obviously wear something nicer.

definitely true. but unfortunately, it's all about presentation. The company want you to look professional especially around customers. They don't have to be expensive designer suits though.

Exactly there is a time and place for everything. If you are doing a customer visit with C suite execs, throw on a suit. If you work in an office and don't see customers, being required to wear a suit is just everyone putting on a show for each other within the office to feel important IMO (outside of law offices, etc where you could say its acceptable).

But year customer facing people should look presentable, but the level of what is considered presentable to correlate to the importance of the role, etc. As a consumer if I am interacting with someone who looks clean, nice shirt and some chinos or something, I'm fine. I don't need 30k/yr employees to be trying to look like a CEO.

I've always thought that was the dumbest sh!t. Yeah I want to be uncomfortable all day long, 5 days a week to make baby money. NOTHXJEFF. Posting from my IT job while I wear skate shoes, jeans and a hoodie. Even when I inevitably make it to 6 figures, I'll still prefer to be comfortable over looking like a try-hard douche

Accurate, OP. Also just lol at a suit and tie still being considered the ultimate in men's fashion in the current year. Some french ******* 400 years ago though Croatian mercenaries looked cool wearing their neck ties that were actually used to keep their jackets closed, so now we're still wearing an elongated bastardization of it all these years later after the invention of zippers and vel-cro and everything else has made them obsolete.

Feel bad for people that work at places like Enterprise Rent-a-car as like a Manager Trainee.

They get paid like 35k a year, work long hours, and are supposed wear a suit to work. Like half of their first couple paychecks have to go to buying suits lol.

Just because something sounds fancy and nice doesn't mean it holds water in todays world. Provide an example where this holds true? TONS of 100k+ jobs don't require business attire. So by that logic someone wanting that sort of job should continue to dress casual given that is the dress code of these places.

I was 21 working as a LA Fitness training salesman. Rough gig. They had us wear dress pants and dress shoes while we trained people. Absolutely ridiculous
