Well when the price of everything has gone up and wages haven't kept up its not hard to see why a lot of people are struggling.

people don't buy houses until well into their 20's if you can't save up for a down payment by then, that's sad.

Meh, need more data before I make an opinion. If it's adults leeching into their 30a I have a problem.
My parents paid my car payment when I moved away and got a decent job out of state because I still started out at the bottom. I paid them back every month, but there were times that I wouldn't have been able to pay it on time without them due to how the biweekly paychecks fell on the calendar. I would do the same for my kids as long as they were working and making the effort like I did

wut. That's like the last thing that should be OK... buying them a car and paying their rent in college is much more acceptable than that IMO

The only way you would even have a chance to save is if you continued to live with your parents until that time which of course is ideal and shouldn't be frowned upon.

I never had parents help with bills however I am sure they would have. If it's a one time thing I can see helping my children but if it becomes a habit I will show them the door along with some training aides on saving/spending within your budget.

On the other hand, I have friends that have parents putting down 20% on their first house for them... where I'm from that equates to like 30-35K, and where I am trying to buy a house that is 60K+
A down payment is a much bigger expense.

That feel when i am actually supporting my mom. Give her approximately 1000-1500 every month because she is on disability and she has been going through disability court for past 2.5 years. She has her final hearing tomorrow and hope she gets disability...it woild only be 700-800 per month but that would be atleast be some help and i wouldnt have to pay for her insurance and medicine as she would get medicade.

Jobs that pay significantly higher then minimum wage are hard to find nowadays without the right type of degree gender studies do not count especially for the inexperienced workers.
If you're making 1100 a month with the rising cost of rent health & car insurances collage dept hydro phone bill food minimum wage losing 2x its purchasing power it's no surprise you would need assistance.
If people stopped opposing minimum wage increases stopped telling inexperienced teens to pick whatever degree they desire without warning of long-term consequences then you would find less youngsters living with parents or needing assistance.

Don't see the issue if these people are in school and living at home...I know so many 19-24 year olds that live away from home for school/go out regularly/go on a spring break trip. When you do the math it would be impossible to live that lifestyle without help from their parents, setting themselves up for failure.

My argument about the down payment assistance was this. It lets your kids jump ahead a couple years where they would normally be doing exactly what you said tossing money at a rental and trying to save.

I haven't had financial help since 18 besides occasional gifts but have seen so many people left behind during social occasions, vacations etc solely due to lack of money. Usually the parents are either cunnts or poor for not being able to shell out a few hundred every once in a while. IDGAF, but from my experience kids who get a financial helping hand are usually better off in school and social life
If you're tight on cash yourself thats ok, but don't pretend like you got your chit together and pretend you know everything about finances. If you had money and a kid you loved, why would you NOT help out

If people had the money, they'd pay for it themselves
OP, the dollar has lost 98% of its buying power since 1913....
Housing is through the roof
Average American pays 50% in taxes
Everything is taxed, every single process of the economy
The economy is heavily suppressed. How can opportunity arise when opportunity is directly proportional to freedom? How can freedom arise when there are hundreds of thousands of regulations in the law books?

I live at home but pay most of my expenses and go to school. But when it comes to car insurance and phone and such I am still under my fathers accounts simply because it's cheaper then for me to get my own. But I can understand why its so common these days. Good jobs that will allow you the time to both work and go to school and actually pay enough to cover your expenses are hard to come by from my experience. The only people I know who have moved out right now are either finished with college and have a good job or have an apartment with 3-5 roommates whilst going to school.

The dollar hasn't lost 98% of it's buying power since 1913.... for example in 1913 an average loaf of bread was $.07. In today's dollars, that $0.07 equates to $1.79 for which you can still buy a loaf of bread. The buying power is comparable.
Housing is not through the roof, the housing market is comparable to 20 years ago right now.
Americans pay more like 25-30% in taxes
