I work 9-5 and I love my job. Whenever I hear someone doing 9-5 and hating it I imagine them in a small cubicle in a building being 1 of 1,000's of accountants or government type office clerks.

Bro, from what I've read you pretty much have a work life that I think a lot of people would enjoy. Maybe we have a medical condition that physically repulses doing repetitive things day in day out but I can really imagine myself flying all over the country meeting new business connections and discussing sales 16+ hours a day easily instead of packing boxes or invoicing 8+ hours a day. Maybe that's why the hated "digital nomad" lifestyle is gaining traction rapidly. I just get bored so quickly doing the same thing that I feel like offing myself. ADHD of the work force lol.

Oh dude, don't get it twisted...what I do now is great and I enjoy it. Why I said that was I spent 11 years behind a desk and and it immediately made me think about the years I wasted droning through life, collapsing into booze, banging girls I didn't even like and hating people in the process...anything to get through. I'm thankful I have a different path now but it jarred me a bit to think I could still be stuck in that and there are so many people doing it daily. Yeah, I remember you telling the story on your comp thread. No nuthug but I'm glad you're out of that rat hole. A lot of people are too afraid/don't have the drive/any other excuse to thrive for change and end up wasting their life away never experiencing the true happiness which is sad.

These are two guys who made it, their perspective is of course going to be different.

Rogan made it in the entertainment and comedy industry. Rollins in a rock band and somehow stand up too.

Do these nimwits realize how small your chances are at making it in either of those industries?

And making it in those industries is only minorly linked to talent. There is also luck in being at the right place, right time and having the look or sound the industry likes.

If you had a good job in a 9-5, you have to balance whether quitting that and moving to hollywood to most likely be a bartender/waitress for the rest of your life while trying to get "discovered" is worth it.

They make one subtle (but important) point in a rather rapid way: some people just aren't cut out for X work environments. There are plenty of people in 'corporate' jobs who have no reason being there aside from the expectation/perception/training that this is the way to 'make money'. That they don't belong in these jobs means they come to work day after day resenting the very work environment they are in, and the people they work with, and they become breeding grounds for negative emotions and can leave devastation (in other people in particular) in their wake.

The generation of parents telling their kids that they need to be a doctor/lawyer/engineer to have financial stability (and therefore happiness) have unfortunately left many damaged souls around, and this is compounded by the fact that everything in modern society is a commodity for sale, with value systems in the gutter. The harsh reality here is that some people would be much happier being farmers than lawyers but they take 'lawyer' (insert job there) for 'money', and spend their entire lives trying to cope with the fact that they loathe their day to day existence. And this is compounded by the fact that there are too many douches on this planet that say things like "lol farmer", and I have called out at least 1 poster on the Misc before who had the audacity to make fun of a poster here for being a paramedic. Absolute piece of chit.

Facts are facts, 99% don't make it.

1% who do make it aren't those 'who refuse to give up'. They are, in most cases, extremely lucky individuals tied with the fact that they had a talent and worked hard.

You gonna take that 9-5 job be financially secure that you don't mind, but not your special snowflake 'dream job and passion' that your mum and dad said you could achieve when growing up, can still hit the gym, see your friends, have a good social life, etc or be a bum in las angeles working at starbucks stressing about your next bill and never giving up bro!! hoping one day you'll catch your lucky break in that acting gig.

Key is working the 9-5 but not going home and sitting on your couch, work on your own dreams in your own time. There are 24 hours in a day.

To be fair you chose the big 4 route instead of a low to mid-sized accounting firm if you're into finance. You probably went into it knowing the first couple of tiers at the bottom meant low yearly salary and loads of unpaid overtime for the greater good. A lot of people don't have the drive to succeed outside of comfortable hourly salary in the office either. I don't know anyone who is putting in 12+ hours of hard work a day in anything they do and struggle to succeed. Even the tradies who waste half their salaries away on cigarettes and booze drive around in fancy cars and harleys. They don't know how to build on the success or don't want to but that is another point. I think most of the drive comes from enjoyment and guys like Joe next to being fairly lucky also enjoyed what they were doing, that's why they never stopped, never quit and put in the work needed for luck to knock on their door.
I guess it's the same reason people gamble. They want the easy money without working for it. If they took that $100 they bet on horses and paid a guy to create a website for their small woodworking business, they would increase the chance of wealth by a million.

The fact is 99% dont make it because they never tried. Or they lack the skillset because they never even bothered to pick up a book to learn about an industry.

Everyone wants to live a millionaire lifestyle, but nobody wants to do any research/studying into how to do it.

I dont even work close to 9-5. I work around 4-5 hours a day (on the days that I want to) and thats split up into 1-2 bursts and I would say that I earn more than 95% of the misc.

Why the fuk would I even want to work anywhere near to 9-5?

A lot comes down to IQ. I'll sound like a dbag but lots of low IQ people are totally fine in a repetitive work environment but it is legit torture for intelligent people especially educated ones. Over here we have an epidemic of under-employment ie. situations like physics grads answering phones. The actual level of intellect required for most office jobs is very small.
