Sociopath:

I have an ex girlfriend who I believe is a psychopath, which is a more extreme sociopath.

She has told me she has no emotions, not even for her kids. She has done many crimes.

I have never seen any indication that she is disturbed by this state of being.

The OP made the post, so he must be concerned.

Depression:

It's not JUST depression to feel like the OP when you're very smart. It's very difficult to feel like you're surrounded by people you can't relate to, who can't stimulate you, and so you're just alone.

That's depressing, but it's due to your situation, not just some anomaly.

You use the word "depression" like it's a physical thing, when it's not. Also, do you know what CAUSES personality disorders?

You're stupidly giving advice and don't even know the definitions of the words you're using.

I’m 140+ (161 / top score Cattel B III (Mensa IQ test), equates to ~141 Stanford Binet).

I’m empathetic, far from dead inside.

That said. I can’t help but see idiocy everywhere, and I find that a lot of people - even if they’re very well qualified on paper - just seem to be incredibly ‘slow’ thinkers. The amount of time and detail it takes for some - supposedly intelligent - people to see the ‘big picture’ is comically frustrating.

I don’t know whether IQ factors into this. But being in that top 0.5%+ has got to have some downside.

Edit
The big problem is that I can be hyperaware of things and hyperanalytical as well. When you break too many things down--especially human nature--into its basic constituents, it's sort of depressing.

discuss.

is this the consequence of having a high IQ?
srs bro i think it is, my iq is around 128-132, i'm fukin dead inside but i was abused as a kid so that probably has something to do with it. i still have empathy most of the time, but i get manic and don't care about anyone but my self some times to, idk man i haven't found anything that really helps me, it sucks, every day is a struggle to get out of bed and not end it.

I feel dead inside 85% of the time and I'm fairly sure my IQ is above 130 or at very least around that area. I realized long ago that no-one really cares about me other than myself, 99% of people don't give a damn about you, even the ones you call family in most cases will throw you under the bus to better themselves. Human nature is horrible. I think it's this realization at a young age that caused me to shut down most of my emotional facilities and just pretend my way through life emotionally. Sometimes on rare occasions the pretending even feels real.

I might seem like I'm happy, exited, sympathetic ect..but I'm not really, I don't feel anything anymore for more than a few seconds, apart from anger and fear. Everything else is just fakery.

Edit - At least that's how I used to feel for a very long time, but I've realized that living life this way is worthless and try hard to be like a real person everyday. I've realized it's something I don't want. I want to feel for real all the time but getting there is, difficult, maybe even impossible.

Read my original post.

If you think people suck, and try to help, you will feel better.

If you look at people as babies, that helps. If you saw a bunch of kids you knew causing trouble, you would say something, show them a better way, then they might listen. It's the same thing.

I bet OP has an average job, did average in college/H.S and thinks he's a genius because he did well on an online IQ tests. There are loads of people on the internet who claim to have IQs of 130+ and also claim to be average citizens. Its possible to do average in life and have a high IQ, but these online tards are not even those.

That's a content free butthurt post because you're threatened and feel stupid because of a guy on the internet.

I can explain all about depression, various types, causes, etc all day long and you literally know nothing. You're threatened because you know nothing, are narcissistic, because you're stupid, and that's why you made the post. You can't see that I would destroy you in a discussion about next to anything, then slink off like a little beta after having wasted my time providing no responses.

I've been on the web since the early 90s and it's filled with people like you.

Depression can manifest as physical symptoms though I didn't mention anything about that.

Psychopath vs. Sociopath

There isn't full agreement on what causes personality disorders but it is generally thought to be some part genetic predisposition triggered by childhood experience - mostly trauma, though not always.

Feeling empty I believe is most strongly associated with Borderline Personality Disorder.

I don't believe I gave any advice. I just listed some possibilities.

I've been on the web since the early 90s and it's filled with people like you.
could you make a thread about it? i would appreciate it, i've suffered from depression since i was 12 years old and i'd like to find out what i could do to fix it.
