Imagine being stuck 3 miles underground, pitch black, trapped by water and passages small enough for only 1 person to squeeze through?

I cannot imagine the world of anxiety I would be experiencing.

The teacher who led them down there could possibly hold the world potato record.

They already are. 10k litres per hour but it only lowers water level by 1cm / hour.
They are expecting heavy rain too.

I'd imagine most if not all of these kids are good swimmers.

You also have to love Thai people and their positive outlook. The kids still smiling after being stuck in the dark for 9 days starving, lol at the cheeky lil ******* in the middle with the torch.

Dailymail gonna Dailymail. That is the worst case option being floated at the moment.

Alternatively they could teach the kids how to use a scuba tank and then guide them back out the cave. I know a couple other options were put forward as well.

Very exciting they were all found alive, but looks like it's still a long road ahead.

I agree it was potato to go in there in the first place due to the likelihood of rain but the only reason they've ended up so deep into the cave is that they had to go further in to get to higher ground when the water started rising.

Rescuers are considering how best to bring to safety a group of boys trapped in a flooded cave network in northern Thailand.

The 12 boys and their football coach were discovered alive on Monday.

Divers reached them nine days after they entered the caves and became trapped by rising waters caused by heavy rainfall.

More heavy rain could see water levels rise and threaten the air pocket where the group has taken refuge.

Attempts are being made to reduce the risk of this by pumping water from the underground system.

Professional divers are battling the difficult conditions to bring food and medicines to them, highlighting the complicated nature of any rescue.

A phone line is being installed so the boys can talk to their families.

Earlier, the Thai military said the boys would need to learn to dive - or wait months for flooding to recede before they could get out of the caves.

Food would need to be sent in for the next four months if the scuba-diving option was ruled out, the military added.

It is believed that most of the group cannot swim, complicating what would already be a difficult rescue.

The Thai authorities have appealed for donations of full-face scuba diving masks small enough to fit the boys in order to reduce the risk of their breathing apparatus coming loose as they travel through flooded passageways.

The group is also in a weak state after days without food.

So what is the story with the first divers who reached them being British? Do the Thai's not have rescue teams good enough to dive in these caves?

I think there's just various routes you can take in the cave so they had to look in all directions, so needed more divers

There were teams from all over the world helping to look, including Australia and the US.
