Girlfriend is Mexican. Here is the thing. She will tell you straight out. Everyone who says dont go to Mexico lives or is from poverty stricken cartel land. They are from places like Guerero, Michuacan, Sinaloa etc. They are not living in the same places retired Europeans and Americans are living. They are living in poor areas with tons of cartel crime due to poverty.

Are you *******s full potato or what. Mexico City, most of South Central Mexico and Yucatan/Quintana Roo are safe for the most part.

If you knowingly go to states that are known cartel centers, then you deserve to get flayed, decapitated and hung nude from an overpass sicario style.

Not even gonna risk it anymore. Went to Cancun for my senior HS trip and that's all I need. Many more tropical places without the chance of getting decapitated and being hung from an overpass. No thanks jeffery

it's the last line that really sums it up. Here in the U.S. people normally don't get flayed, decapitated, or hung nude from overpasses. That happens in Mexico and lots of other 3rd world countries, it's why we don't go to 3rd world countries or Mexico.

Been living in Mexico since December of 2016...

Ive lived 2 months in cancun, 2 in guadalajara, and been in Mexico City the remainder of the time...had nothing but good experiences in all these places plus the ones ive visited for a few days.

Nayarit is a beautiful scene. Sayulita is a fun place to get away from it all and smoke a j on the beach, a little too hippie for me tho.

If youre ever in Mexico city ill show you round. Im best friends with another miscer here

Mexico is about as safe as syria.
self-selection bias, though they aren't wrong. middle-class immigrants specially trash the more violent cities, since the thing they look for the most are sorely lacking (predictability/safety). if you're poor you roll with the punches since you have no choice/don't know any better, if you're rich you have bodyguards, connections and high-security housing.

There is cartel activity in Cancun, Pueryo Vallarta, Mexico City, and all tourist areas. But the government and the cartels try to hide it. Yeah, it ain't Jaurez, but it is still their. El Chapo's son was kidnapped in a tourist area.

The cartel's are smart, they will try not to bother the tourist areas, but things can change real fast.

That's the thing all the people saying, "They don't bother tourists" don't understand... or maybe they're just playing dumb.

Mexico is highly unstable with regards to government/security. Sure... from a day-to-day perspective... food/lodging/transportation... no real issue. But, you basically have martial law throughout the country. Even when cartel stuff picked up recently in the tourist areas... they had to send the military in. So if something happens to you, might happen to you, or gets sketchy ... what is your recourse? The police won't help you, so then what? The US government wants nothing to do with it ... so you're screwed in that angle. Your only option is to boat out or fly out.

Lets not forget that there is migrant crisis going on right now. People are fleeing the expanding violence in central america up through Mexico to get to the USA. While at the same time there have been over 100 political assassinations recently. Both of these facts should speak volumes as to the stability of central america.

I'll tell you one thing for certain. When the US dollar collapses, these 2nd & 3rd world countries... especially Mexico (depends heavily on the dollar obviously) ... well they are going to get hit hard. Don't be surprised if it isn't Venezuela on steroids.

I dunno OP

I've always been weary of Mexico. But after reading that recent story about the American couple who's wife got shot in the face by a stray bullet outside of a restaurant in Mexico City. There was a local assassination hit via motorcycle and she caught a stray in the dome piece. This was a newly married couple and now the wife is dead

You do know the places you have listed are full to the brim with heavily armed Mexican soldiers and Marines right? Thats like saying certain parts of Detroit, Chicago, Washing D.C etc are safe....they're full of armed security, military or good areas without poverty and the people who cause it.

Without those men with guns guarding the place its 100% guaranteed the cartels would come in and fuk things up big time.
