This is why I always smh when people get married in their early 20's. Sure it's cool to be in a relationship at that age, but to marry? Na. You haven't even got to live and enjoy your 20s man. I just recently got engaged 2 weeks ago. We've been dating for 2.5 years. She's 30. Hope everything goes smooth in the divorce, but do not do anything stupid as it can come back to bite you in the ass.

That sucks, man.

FYI, underground is right^^^. Don't assume that you've got it in the bag because she cheated. Also, depending on the state, cheating may or may not affect alimony. You need a lawyer (a real lawyer; not a misc lawyer).

Edit: Never mind. I see you're already on it with the lawyer. Good luck.

I have a bigger support system, more income, and a more stable mental health state. I already talked to a lawyer bud. Sorry (not sorry) to say you're wrong on this one.

Sounds like you have nothing that will hold up in court.

Seeing her car next to his when she was supposedly at the grocery store ain't saving your paycheck son.

50/50, I care too much for my son to keep him away from his mother, as angry as I am at her, she is a great mom to our son despite what she's done to me.

I still don't have to give her money if it is 50/50

I swear brah this is real, simply forgot SRS tag
Does anyoneACTUALLY believe infidelity etc. has ANY impact on the financial consequences of divorce? If so... wow... gonna be a rude awakening!

Family law in North America is structured to transfer assets from male to female. Notice the deciding factor here? GENDER. Nothing else. Not misconduct (on either or both sides). Not the welfare of the child. Not even relative wealth. All that matters is gender. If you're a man - you're screwed! Don't believe me, look some some cases in your local jurisdiction.

I hope you're right man, but ive seen some messed up cases where a guy get screwed because a girl gives the dude a blow job then spits the semen out and impregnates her self with out the guys knowledge, all while she is married to some one else.

ok chief

not smart to walk into court arrogant thinking you got it in the bag when your potential ability to raise your kid is at stake + lawyers will try to milk you and keep the process going as long as they can. so you might want to tread softly.

Because OP has already discredited that notion a half dozen times in this thread. I'm much more inclined to believe the guy posting about his divorce in his thread about his state than I am some random guy trying to apply their own local laws to the situation.

Ummm good luck with that ... depending on the specifics of your case and jurisdiction there may be small hope but I wouldn't count on it. Best approach is to hope she/her lawyer doesn't take too aggressive an approach. GL!

Even if a court reaches these findings, adultery on the part of the dependent spouse is a bar to alimony. If the court finds that the dependent spouse has participated in an act of illicit sexual behavior (outlined in North Carolina General Statute § 50.16.1A(3)a.) such as sexual intercourse or other sexual acts with a person other than their spouse during the marriage and prior to or on the date of separation, the court will not award alimony. An adulterous dependent spouse has no rights to alimony under North Carolina Law.
damn, not too bad, opie

on the other hand:
In almost all cases, adultery has absolutely no bearing on a judge’s decision regarding division of marital property. The only exception being if your or your spouse’s affair affected the finances of the marriage. For example, a judge will likely take into consideration if thousands of dollars of marital assets were spent (or significant debt accumulated) on expensive hotel rooms, gifts, or vacations for the spouse’s paramour.

Do you move around a lot because of being in the military? If so, 50/50 probably not going to happen.

Doesn't matter anyway. Infidelity has zero relevance or bearing on divorce proceedings (except as a possible mechanism for all attorneys involved to run up their fees).

As I have found out more over the past couple of weeks, it turns out you are more accurate than you think...

I did until I found out she was fukkin a coworker

Lmao sucks how women always set themselves up before a breakup. I know its in their biology so it doesn't upset me, just funny when I hear them whine about men being dogs.

And yea my only military buddy also got married after 2 years. Went ok I guess for a few years, he's divorced now. I feel like you bros just cant help yourselves and fall into the trap.

As common as divorce is in general, the rate is disproportionately high among young military guys. Hope you don't get screwed by the divorce.
