It depends on what you consider "rape culture". Some of the **** that they used to tell us back in the day was definitely sketchy and could probably be considered rape culture. Going after drunk chicks. Asking to just put the tip in lmao.

This is what I was thinking. I've never known someone that was raped who just told me that. Do some people go around broadcasting it? Or did I just hang out in different circles. They're acting like he is saying rape is a good thing, and totally missing the point he is trying to make.

He's a comedian. It's their job to be obnoxious pieces of ****.

And to be fair, he was INCREDIBLY polite to that girl despite the constant barrage of ad hominem. Just because a white women cries doesn't mean the whole world must weep along with her. She even started wildly accusing the police officer of being okay with rape and putting him on camera when she wasn't getting her way.

Anyone who breaks down into tears at the presentation of a rational claim and statistics to support it, and replying with "we shouldn't look at empirical data" has no place in any serious academic field of repute, let alone one which informs and guides the policies that make up our criminal justice system.

I know of a single person who in college put his fingers where they shouldn't on a chick passed out on a futon, and he was sent to jail for it. Even the people he was good friends broke all ties with him. Anecdotal yes, but that's the complete opposite of rape culture.

Only ever knew one personally, also know a woman who was very recently gang raped by 3 individuals at a party after being drugged. I guided her through the process of calling the police and having a rape kit done, confirming evidence of forced entry in multiple regions and three separate sets of DNA on her body and clothing. She also tested positive for GHB in her system.

Rape is a serious subject to me, I don't take it lightly. But letting that distort my perception of the issue is wrong, and not appropriate for any academic or professional setting. Facts don't care about feelings. Not even my feelings.

Not sure what rape culture is but lots of colleges don't really do much to stop this stuff. Frats are a joke, dudes and girls get raped and drink themselves to death, and anything gets swept under a rug if you're a talented athlete.

Most people aren’t criminals but criminals commit all crimes

A guy I went to college with raped 6 girls before there was enough conclusive evidence to put him in prison. Scumbags can do quite a bit of damage.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say rape but I’d be shocked if most girls hadn’t been at least groped by some creep. Again, the same guys do this stuff to multiple women even if most wouldn’t.

Only been told of one rape story. Told by my sister. She didn't go in to detail, but she called my dad one night while in college saying it happened to her. She also was an apparent virgin(according to my parents). A couple of months later my dad said she didn't get raped, my sister had a habit of drunk calling my dad when she was away at school.

So I agree, but I'm always willing to listen. Seems like anything can be considered rape nowadays as long as the women has some feelings of regret about a situation.

Know you are implying it but not even sure women know what rape is anymore. Look at the lowering of the bar in regards to any sex crimes.

Funny too how metoo comes around and suddenly more and more women suddenly remember all these times they've been assaulted.

I get that, I do, but a lot of rape victims have serious issues with boundaries later on. So them telling you right away isn’t necessarily proof they are lying.

Never believe a woman 100% she was raped unless there is proof. Only girls that I've known for a long time and know their character would I believe them, but not random women when there's so many cases of girls lying about it. We don't know if a girl is saying it for attention or to get something out of it. Especially when they accuse a man, we're supposed to just believe the woman and demonize the man without evidence? That's dangerous.

I've only met one girl back in college that claimed she was raped. Oddly enough, we were in a study group for an exam at the library. she started asking personal questions and kinda felt like she wanted me to be her friend or something. I told her I was probably going to the club later with some friends and told her she was more than welcome to tag along.

than out of nowhere she brings up she was raped and she started crying causing a scene. I was kind of taken a back by the absolute 180 and random change of subject. I asked her if she was in imminent danger and she said NO it happened TWO YEARS AGO and was just going into a state of delirium. I got up and left. ran into her later that day and she was acting perfectly normal and asked for my number for that night and i gave her a fake number.

In the age of DNA, it's really not THAT hard to put a rapist behind bars if you

1.) Go to the police soon after it happens
2.) Have a rape kit done before you wash off
3.) Press charges

I have NEVER met a woman who claimed her rapist went free who met all three of these VERY BASIC criteria. I understand that it's hard for a woman to come forward who's been raped, I'm not implying it isn't. But these simple standards for reporting a crime committed against you in an effective way are present in almost any other crime that lacks witnesses.

Compare this to any crime: assault, destruction of property, theft, breaking and entering. If you came forward about any of these to the police, months or years after with no physical evidence, of course that won't be enough to convict. The fact is, evidence is needed to put criminals behind bars, and this lack of evidence and unwillingness to press charges is what keeps most rapists on the streets.

The first girl I mentioned in the earlier post? Despite my urging and laying out how she would be limiting her options, she destroyed every possible piece of evidence deliberately because she, in her own words, "just wanted to forget about it". Threw out the sheets and clothes, showered several times, refused to go in for a rape kit or call the police, and even deleted her texts.

A year later, she's tried to get a case together. And when that failed as expected, took to social media. The man is now threatening to sue her for defamation of character.

Unfortunate?
Yes.

Rape culture?
No.

One time a girl told me she was raped by her first boyfriend, and then 5 minutes later clarified that:

"Well technically I told him he could because he kept pressuring me, but I was hoping he would notice I was reluctant and not go through with it. He just shoved himself inside and didn't even ask if I was okay when he was done."

I told her flat out, "That's unfortunate and I'm sorry you had a bad first sexual experience, but that's not rape. I don't care what twitter told you."

Let's start by defining culture: the rituals, cuisine, dress, etc. of a group of people that makes them distinct.

1. If a society had a rape culture it would fall apart very rapidly because none of the above could be practiced. For example, nobody would go to church because they scared for their sister's safety.

2. In the West, we don't celebrate rapists, we put them on trial then gaol them if they're guilty. Chit, God help them if they're put with the general prison population.
