i don't see anything wrong with "please advise"

but what does annoy me is when people say things like "we're gaining traction" or "let's get the ball rolling"

like no...traction is for automobiles

Bros, sounds like you all need to think outside the box and pick up the low hanging fruit. You need to circle-back and do a value-add to reap the synergies of this best of breed situation. There's no way you can scale without boiling the ocean so let's take this off line because it is what it is.

These. Everyone is so fking hyper-sensitive in an office job I'd rather be sending them emails asking "please advise" than being more informal and getting bitched at by my boss for being a jerk via e-mail. I mean you literally can't say most anything to anyone through e-mail without them getting their head up their own ass, thinking you are being condescending.

Agreed. But people are going to bish about you at work somehow regardless of what you do. Gotten to the point where you got to be yourself. Constantly walking on eggshells is a chore.

This exactly.

I use it when someone fuks up and needs to rethink their approach.

"Good morning. Our initial strategy was to target X and wait for *blah blah* response, then react. The subject chose to move positions so our initial strategy must be repurposed. I suggest *blah blah* Please advise."

Translation: Hi boss and team. Boss, against all advice and common sense, you wanted to do this. Now it's fukked and no one wants to publicly say that this was not a surprise. Wtf do you want me to do now?"

lol it doesnt annoy me, but overused corporate speak is definitely something that should be pointed out.

some others that i hear all the damn time.

"quick wins" -- leadership likes to throw these terms around in the tech field. we can do something quick, but theyre usually dreaming of a tech masterpiece, which is never quick

"we'll take this offline" -- wait wat? we're talking in a meeting room right now. how are you going to take this in-person conversation "offline"? -- the translation is, "youre talking a lot of bullsht, remind me to own you later"

"we'll need to run that one up the flag pole" --- yeah sure, even though it doesnt make any sense. lets try not to be a weak btch in front of everybody

it's stilted language. just like sayin "utilize" when you mean "use". ask a specific question if you want a answer.

Usually I will throw a "please advise" in an email when I know the recipient is being dumb or difficult. Like "you know what you're doing is going to cause x amount of extra problems, please advise if you still want to proceed." Etc

I would never use that kind of jargon even in the corporate world. There's no need for so much formality. Just get straight to the point and don't waste people's time. Send nudes.

I use it with my clients because it's the only way to get some of them to answer a question in an email. Otherwise they tend to ignore what I need.
