I won't fly US carriers these days, much less carriers from the third world.

I don't think I'll be leaving the US anymore for a LONG time. And definitely won't be flying under the protection of the TSA.

My days of flying are over. It's either drive, take a train, or take a transatlantic ocean liner for me from now on. I think the last time I took a commercial flight was around 1996.

Probabilities aren't valid here. Car crashes and plane crashes are not random events.

I have control over my safety in a car. I don't have control in an airplane. A lot of older jets have maintenance issues that I'm not informed of as a passenger. All it takes is one tiny failure of the fuselage or wing or even a wire harness at the wrong time and wrong place and the whole plane can go down killing everyone on board. You don't often hear of car accidents killing 188 people at a time.

My issues with flying are:
- aging fleets of planes
- quality of maintenance work and records
- poor screening of those who work around planes between flights
- deliberately poor customer service behavior of airlines
- Homeland Security screening is invasive and steps on freedoms of innocent travelers in order to make a big show of keeping us safe, which in reality it doesn't
- ever shrinking seat space on planes and ever increasing fees for carry-on luggage, etc.
- spending long hours in proximity to cranky people

It's like going to the busiest DMV in the country on the busiest day of the year and being told the wait is 6 hours AND you have the possibility that the building may blow up with all of you inside.

If you're going from one place to another, you are at risk of suffering an accident through no fault of your own. You can be a good driver and avoid slippery roads, but you're still facing someone who swerved into your lane to avoid a jaywalker or getting T-boned at a left turn by someone running the light.

While flying makes you feel like you have no control over your safety, by picking out which airline to fly with and which destinations to go to, you've already done a lot to determine your odds of having an accident.

In a third world country you're pretty likely to die from both.

It was a Boeing 737, crashed 13 minutes into the flight. That's a solid aircraft and well beyond where air anomalies are dangerous. Either pilot or maintenance error.

Brb never flying 3rd world airlines

ya but when the plane engine shuts off, your chances or survival are shyt compared to your chances of survival if your car engine shuts off.

Modern plane engines and flight routes are designed and planned around engine failures, things like glide time, other emergency airports en route, etc. Losing an engine is scary but not a big deal.

There are going to be a lot of questions around this besides the immediate terrorism investigation, they just got the plane.

That's because we drive cars every single day. There's not many people that are flying in airplanes every single day. And most people survive car crashes.

That's a cool design but if Air Force One doesn't even have something like that I can't imagine it ever being introduced to commercial airliners.

what if a trucker loses control and runs your car over, what if a drunk driver hits you head on?, what if a tire flys off a car into your drivers side?, what you your car hits black ice or hydroplanes?, what if someone is texting and runs a red light tboning you at 50 in an suv and your in car (this happened to me, wrecked my knee), what if you hit a deer? What if a flash flood sinks your car with you in it (happened to me during a hurricane weather) Lots of things can happen behind the wheel of a car you can’t control either.

Youre still more likely to be killed by a reckless driver than on an airplane.
