The chances are still higher than with other breeds. Considering the countless number of dog breeds around, there is really no reason to specifically choose a pitbull over them. It's almost always the potential danger and how "badass" they are that attracts the owner.

Siegfried and Roy managed to raise and perform with numerous tigers over the years before one of them snapped and almost killed them. Just because that one tiger is the exception rather than the norm doesn't mean that it's a good idea to own a tiger.

Lots of people ITT already explained their specific reasons for picking a pit, myself included. I'm not arguing the chances are higher than with some other breeds. But there are other breeds that are very well documented to actually be very aggressive dogs, Akitas, Chows, and Wolf-hybrids are the top aggressors that come to mind.

Your determination as to why people get pitbulls is a stereotype. While true for many, it's also untrue for a lot of owners. As you can see reviewing the posters ITT who explained how they ended up with their pit.

As for the post you replied to, that one was simply highlighting his misuse of "norm" and "exception". The exception is rare, and the pits that are killing humans are significantly rarer than the ones who are living alongside humans without attacking them.

Yes, that tiger was theexceptionbecause majority of tigers will not be trained and perform with humans safely, which would be thenorm

Like i said, I don't deny they're dangerous. But there are other dogs that are just as dangerous. Pitbulls are hardly the strongest or fastest dogs in existence.

also a good point regarding pack mentality below

That's ridiculous. Tigers are lone apex predators and not pack animals. just like cats. It's amazing they didn't eat the humans earlier. Dogs are pack animals and need rules to be healthy. Any dog that is aggressive at home does not see the family as his pack. That is the peoples fault. Dogs need rules, otherwise they take charge and will protect unnecessarily and will have anxiety.

I don't dislike Pitbulls but on the flip side even if your dog mauls and kills your daughter (unprovoked or not), he's not necessarily doing anything wrong. They were literally bred to love bloodsport. Regardless of how tame and gentle they are (And they can be very tame and gentle dogs) they have the potential to do serious damage should they snap. And they enjoy doing so once exposed.

Its in their nature. Its one of the reasons why they have the reputation they do and is one of the reasons why people own them. They can be an aesthetic and interesting dog. But on the flip side they come with a much higher risk to other pets and family members that are smaller/weaker. While any dog has the potential to turn. They have the potential to do the most damage out of all of the 'common' aggressive dog breds.

I'm not particularly sympathetic to people that keep dangerous pets then get injured or killed because of it or have a family member get injured or killed. If schit goes south and your kid gets injured/killed it sucks for her because she never had a choice in the matter. 100% the fault of the owner anytime a dog rekts a family member.

website that links to dogsbite.org, a very thinly veiled pitbull hate website that advocates putting down the entire breed.

Not saying that invalidates all those stories, but I've already clicked on 2 stories in which the dog is a mix with no pics shown, or the breed is highly questionable in the provided pics. Eyewitness reporting of breeds is largely unreliable.

On that note, I'm leaving work. Again, before anyone responds saying I'm an apologist or excusing the breed for their wrongdoings, no i'm not. I acknowledge pitbulls are dangerous animals, as are all large dogs. I'm perfectly find with more restrictions on larger dogs. My whole issue with the pitbull thing is the witchhunt people lead against them when other dogs are just as capable of violence.

And to everyone posting the stories of babies getting mauled as defense...you should realize that is only helping the argument of owners being the problem. Baby's aren't really autonomous, and don't typically play, eat, or crawl alone. If the dog was in a position to get to the child and kill it, that's on the owner for leaving the child vulnerable, unless the dog performed some extraordinary feats to reach the child but I have yet to hear of that happening. If you take issue with pitbulls mauling babies, you should take issue with all dogs that maul babies.

a lady was literally killed, mangled and eaten alive by her own pit-bull "babies" not too long ago.

please show me another breed that has done that and I'll hate them just as much as pits.

Garbage breed, no amount of cliche "my pit wouldn't hurt a fly" or "here's a pic of a pit with my baby" can undo the fact that they are a vicious breed which would literally eat you alive if it felt like it and got the chance.

I don't get why you would even risk it. No matter how well trained you think it is at the end of the day it's an animal which has instincts. You're basically betting your daughters life on your own confidence that the dog would never attack which imo is selfish af.

By all means stay away, that's your choice. Just don't be one of those *******s calling for an entire breed to be murdered along with the people that own them, or makes retarded blanket statements about the dogs and their owners. It's funny how every time I call someone out, they backpedal just a little bit saying "No not every pitbull in the world will attack, but i've seen enough to not want one".

If you really wanna argue bite statistics we can, and it'll be a short one since there's no organization that records bites, fatalities, and the breeds involved since the CDC stopped well over a decade ago. And for what they have reported on dog bite fatalities by breed, I already proved to other miscers that the math actually puts Rottweilers at the top, and German Shepherds in second.

lmao you're a real fukin idiot if you're paying $1000 for a pitbull just for the attention. You can pick one up for $100 at a nearby shelter.

But she has triggers and I'm well aware of them as well as able to pickup on signs from her when she's fed up of a situation/person/dog. If you spend a random month with her you wouldn't know this. But it takes that one trigger situation combined with unawareness on the part of the human owner and things could get very ugly.

Point being, the owners that have dogs that 'snap' and do something extremely violent are either lying or missed their dog's prior warning signs of aggression. And the pit bull haters that say of course the dog just randomly became violent without warning are also wrong.

You do know lockjaw is a myth ? And more common dogs such as German Shepard’s , rottis and mastiffs have stronger jaws right ? Did you ever read about it ?
