Would you say any healthy male should be able to bench press 225lbs. or do you think some men genetically ungifted exist and would never reach this number?

Edit: Healthy males that lift/hit the gym regularly.

According to MISC standards it should be achieved within three months of proper training.

99.9% of healthy non lifter men cannot lift 225lbs. You'd definitely need prior training, how long would depend on your genetics/frame.

I don’t think I’m physically capable of benching 225 properly even with 30 years of training. Srs. Pecs are just abnormally small

Any healthy man should be able to achieve that within a couple years of proper training. It's the boys who refused to go above 160 lb body weight who are stuck in that one plate hell for the rest of their life

I think he means that any healthy adult male with training who attempts should Eventually be able to bench 225. And I'd say that is mostly true.

Saw an asian guy on youtube 150lbs 5'6" or 5'7" benching 315 for reps. Other gym go-ers were mirin

In fact:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIBmurkgIRI

The guy has vids lifing more as well

No. Some guy's are just to small and weak. Genetics are cruel.

Some guys are 5'8 and shorter with small frames.

I was benching 225 when I was 15. 135 to 145 - 145 to 185 - 185 to 205, then 205 to 225. Coach made me do it. Max weight for me was 325lb. Have no reason to bench like that anymore. Usually teeter around 225 for 12 to 15 reps.

I’m taller but wasn’t much heavier. Thing is that my frame is super small, my shoulders aren’t wide, have super narrow arms, and pretty much no chest (big abs/small chest, also lots of insertions).

I struggled with 1 plate after years, I don’t think it’s ever possible for me to do 2. Genetics can suck

you would think so but no. i routinely see dude that look stronger than me that can barely hit 205, especially manlets which is odd considering they barely have to bring the bar down. someone never reaching that number is ridiculous unless they have a deformity or injury

Theres a guy at my gym, 5'6 or so. 158lbs (8lbs more than me) and he reps out like 360. Saw him max like 410 or 420. (dead serious) hes like my size, but like 2 inches thicker everywhere in muscle. natural genetic freak, but he also helped push me from the 180 to 225 in just a few months. gave me the confidence to lift it and continue to make gains

I dont have any abdominal muscles and not sure what you mean by insertions. in light I look like I have nice set of abs, but then in regular lighting I feel bloatmaxxed. Been 150lbs for 10 years straight, not a single pound of fluctuation other than water/food daily changes.

I would say the average healthy man that doesn’t lift but is moderately ahead of the pack should be able to hit 185 for a single. Most men aren’t healthy though and maybe get 2-3 on 135
Hm.

There’s some research on this, taken from a sample of men in the gym. Putting up 100kgs with full rom puts you in the top 5% of the gym population, srs

A guy I used to work with (jesse norris) weighs like 195lbs and stands 5'7/5'8. He can bench press almost 500lbs!! Strong genetics here!!

The environment triggered the genetic reaction. He trained like crazy and the result is being a got damn monster.

100 kg is 220 lbs though.

225 lbs would be 102,10 kg.

only a very small minority of gym goers physically would never be able to put up 225lbs in their lifetime. majority of men can achieve it, just most dont cause lack of care, poor nutrition or substandard programming

on the other hand 315 or more is debatable, a lot wont achieve this (or will take a very long time) even with all eyes set on it

lol nah...

id say the average guy who doesnt lift but is active and not a slack jawed homo can bench 135lbs for 3x5.

edit: oh guys who lift.. yea id say most guys who have been lifting for like ~5 months fairly consistently can bench 225.

Stupid question. Assuming the average male is 5'10'' and weighs 170lbs and has no joint, spinal, tendon problems or chit like that he most certainly has the potential to bench press 225 given enough training and proper nutrition.
