Many people like to donate canned goods around this time of year, but that is a horribly inefficient way to help people. For every $1 donated, the Feeding America network of food banks can provide 10 meals to people facing hunger. Feeding America is the nationwide network of 200 food banks that leads the fight against hunger in the United States. Together, they provide food to more than 46 million people through 60,000 food pantries and meal programs in communities across America. They have a 94.28/100 score rating, and 98.6% of all donations go straight to helping those in need. They're a great charity.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE celebrate this Thanksgiving by being charitable and giving to those who are cold and hungry. While there are legit reasons to shy away from giving cash to the needy, there is no good reason to not give them a nice warm meal.

ONE DOLLAR provides 10 meals. ONE DOLLAR. So skip that $5 starbucks soydrink today and help feed 50 people this winter!

If doing the right thing isn't reason enough, you get a tax deduction for your gift, and I will rep everyone that donates. Hopefully others will join in the rep pool as well.

PLEASE DO NOT REP ME. I don't care for reps, I have plenty, so rep other donors in this thread.

I'll get the ball rolling:

Didn't see this last night. I'll make a donation later today. No need for reps. I'll throw my measles in to those who donate when I'm done with everyone donating in the CA fires thread.

Did you even read my post? You're simply wrong. Giving cans is a terribly inefficient way to help.

98.6% of donations to Feeding America go to the families, not program expenses. One of the best regarded charities in the entire country.

You could have discovered this on your own in 5 seconds googling, but just keep making excuses why it's pointless to help others.

$1 provides 10 meals, doesn't feed 10 families.

Ever heard of buying in bulk? And a lot of food providers give deep discounts to legit charities (such as the linked one).

If you want to make excuses for being a selfish scumbag you can do it internally without trying to convince others to also not help.

If anyone wants to donate to another cause that has helped tremendously where I live:

https://www.worldcentralkitchen.org/...givingtogether

https://www.worldcentralkitchen.org/...ey-fire-update

They were there on Thanksgiving feeding everyone at the shelters and they're sticking around for weeks to make sure people are fed. I ate their food last night at the shelter, it was delicious. The cameras aren't on us anymore here. No more CNN, no more ABC, no more local news even. But we still have 280 people just at the shelter where I am and that's just 1 grass roots run place. Help out if you can. Thanks everyone.
