2 San Diego teens tortured and killed in Tijuana

https://people.com/crime/teenagers-k...tured-tijuana/

People watch Narcos like it’s a history lesson and not current day. Stay safe bros and don’t go off the tourist path in Mexico. In this case they were visiting family members, next thing you know found tortured and shot execution style.

That sucks. People need to stop traveling to Mexico for fun. They probably thought they were safe since they looked like the locals.

An old couple also died recently in an Airbnb in Mexico due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Oh well, won't stop me from going.

I've actually read that the cartels don't like getting involved with tourists because it is usually followed by a chitstorm for them. Any tourist killing that makes national news usually means the US/Mexican governments are either already investigating or are about to investigate, both of which are bad for cartel business.

Most likely what happened with these 2 kids was that they saw something they shouldn't have or were involved in a drug deal that went bad.

How true any of what I read is, I have no idea, but it seems like it makes a little sense.

There’s definitely more to this story than we were told.

That murder seems very personal.

True. Killing of tourists is rare af. If you've seen Narcos Mexico, Rafael Caro Quintero kills 2 white tourists in a bar because he was on a coke binge and thought the tourists were DEA. Caused big problems for the cartel. The people responsible for these murders may also get killed due to the heat this will cause.

One of the teens murdered was actually from Tijuana. I'm curious how the two teens from San Diego knew this kid and whether the kid from TJ may have played a role in trying to set up his 'friends' to get robbed, only to be a part of a bigger plot to get all 3 robbed and killed.

Saw this yesterday. Pretty sad. My dipsht friends wanted to go camping near TJ over Thanksgiving weekend. Laughed hysterically.

"On Saturday, Robles allegedly called his mother to let her know they were safe but told her they had lost their phones"

Also, this never happens. Groups of people all don't just lose their phones. They were involved in something most likely.

I imagine Mexico is dangerous, but not that dangerous. Most innocent deaths are from crossfire. Who, especially those in the cartel, who waste time on 2 teenagers?

Says the area was known for homicides and drug activity. Wonder if they ventured over there to buy drugs to party and it went wrong somehow.

“I know how this story sounds, like something that people hear on the news ‘you go to Tijuana and this happens,” Garcia continued. “This shouldn’t have happened to him.”
yeah this is why you don't fukin go to Tijuana. no it shouldn't happen, but it does WAY too much.

and people still wonder why I've never been to Mexico and have no desire to. Way too easy to get mixed up in something you didn't want to be a part of, and Mexico is not forgiving. Doesn't help either that I'm ethnically ambiguous

I went to SDSU in the late 80/early 90s and Tijuana was already seedy as fuk...now with the cartels I cant imagine why anyone would go there and not expect to get kidnapped/beheaded/robbed... back in the day the cops were the ones you really had to worry about- they would extort the fuk out of you or throw you in jail, now its the cartels on a much grander scale.
