Smashed car window to help crying baby, chitty parents trying to press charges

Cliffs:

-Went to supermarket with family
-When we got there the car we parked next to had a screaming baby in alone
-My gf stayed by the car window while I went inside to buy chit
-I was at least 30 mins, came back out and the parents of the baby hadn't arrived back
-A crowd of people had gathered worried for the child, granted it isn't summer so no chance of the baby cooking to death but it was severely distressed
- Waited a few more mins, smashed the driver side window, opened the door and let some old ladies hold the baby
-Me and gf drove away, few days later popo show up saying I'm being charged for criminal damage
-Nfg I say cool, see them in court
-Got my summons today

Not sure if I'll beat the case but I'd do the exact same thing again. Hate chitty parents that leave their kids alone.

Am I in the wrong brahs?

If this is SRS , you did the right thing.

I don't trust the idiotic court system however. Common would think you'd be fine.

You should have immediately called the police when you found an unattended child that was your problem.

So wait

30 mins pass GF watching child
you return break window and then what?

You guys just held the kid until the parents walked out? Parents took child and left? At no point police were on the scene?

How old was the baby?

Leaving them alone is super dangerous. Also not healthy to let them cry if they're very young. 30 minutes was probably thirsty or starving.

Beat the living **** out of them in court please.

Something about this story doesn't add up

I highly doubt 30mins went by first off

So you break the window, hand the baby off to some strangers and then peace out? That seems more dangerous than leaving the kid alone

How did the cops find you?

I'm 75% don't believe because this is the misc, but if true, you won't be charged. That is a clear case of neglect.

Not a lawyer/cop but I'm pretty sure people have beat charges rescuing dogs from hot cars by breaking windows and we're talking about a child here not property

although what you did is the morally right thing to do, authorities always say to just call the cops and standby. if the child looked to be in imminent danger where help was needed immediately, i would have done the same as you.

What may bite you in the ass in court is that you broke the window, and didn't stay with the baby until authorities arrived, and instead passed him off to strangers. That can be viewed as endangerment.

I think you'd be in a much better spot if you got the child, and waited until police arrive personally.

Baby was definitely under 1 years old.

Have thought maybe the baby fell asleep and they didn't want to wake it, but you fukkin wait, not leave it alone in a car.

I know nothing about UK law, so I retract my prior statement. I still think you would be ok because it's a clear case of neglect.

True, I'd still take the life of any intruder whether my family are there or not.

You come into my casa uninvited then your life is in my hands.

Yh maybe, but I kinda had the feeling I'd be arrested or end up in a fight with the parents....

OP please explain in detail what happened and the time frame between when the window was broken and you left the scene it will make a huge difference in the outcome IMO.

People keep saying you left the kid with strangers and left the scene if that's true you're probably going to get your ass gaped.

You should of just called the police the second you saw a baby sitting in a car alone. I'm curious what those low life gutter trash parents looked like
