GJDM. Repped. The hummus is pretty close in terms of macros. Tahini is sesame paste and therefore quite healthy even though it's packed with fat. I'd take it.

Interesting to see how you'll make lentils. I haven't found a single variation I truly enjoy eating..

I didn't even put Tahini in. Didn't have any so I just made it without it. Turned out fine IMO.
I'm hoping to have the lentils tomorrow. ITs a new recipe for me though so if it sucks I'll look for a new one.

I don't understand why you are posting this kinda stuff?

Like, I didn't say I would 1 up any meal posted. I said postpovertymeals and I'll give a better version.
The chickpeas and lentil post is a perfect example of the spirit of the thread.
I've also tried to explain what improvements I made so that other people can replicate it.

Although that honestly doesn't look that good to me. Not sure what it is though. Buffalo shrimp?
some kind of plain black noodles?

It's squid ink pasta with shrimp. And again, that's an everyday quick meal in my household.

Alright lentils done. I've got green lentils here, but I don't think it matters too much.

Cooked the lentils in chicken broth like you did.
But while they cooked I sauteed about half a large onion, tomato paste (I'd recommend a diced tomato. I didn't have a tomato so I substituted with what I had.), garlic, red pepper, cumin, and curry powder.
Added a poached egg on top. + some parsley in an attempt to make this otherwise ugly dish a little prettier. I don't think it really worked but oh well.

I wasn't a super big fan of this honestly, but it was better than just chicken broth and lentils.
I have some old recipes at my parents house I think (they might have thrown them out)

I remember making a saffron lentil in a crockpot back when I first started lifting that was really good. (I recall subbing turmeric for saffron as well.)
If I can find that one I'll post it, otherwise I guess this is it unless someone else has a better idea of how to eat lentils. lol

Well here were my culinary adventures over my visit.

First (and the only one I bothered making pretty) chocolate lava rumcake. Forgot to take a picture after cracking it open. Oh well. Homemade whipped cream too.
Christmas Eve

My breakfastChristmas Daywas two prime rib steaks (leftovers from a roast. I just seared them real quick) some over easy eggs and toast. ended up sharing with my littlest sister.

Next day I made dutch baby's for breakfast.

first sweet with some cinnamon and sugar glaze.

then savory with fried eggs and bacon. I overcooked the yolksalso accidentally flopped the eggs on top and was too lazy(read:hungry) to rearrange it. Still tasted good af. Hard not to win with that much bacon though. LOL

Merry Christmas Misc! What'd you guys eat?

Thanks! I'm still learning a lot about cooking (and I guess I should learn a little about photography now. My pictures are poverty af. I swear this all looks waaay better in person lol)
and stuff like this helps expose me to new stuff to research. Anything in particular you'd like to see?

unrelated heres what I made for my breakfast/lunch/dinner (idk what to call it when the first meal of the day is at 6pm, but I'll probably only eat one more time before bed....)

Baked salmon, carrots, and rice. (carrots were a bit undercooked imo. Rice was slightly overcooked. Guess I can't cook all three at the same exact time lul.

Heres your dececco with sauce made from fresh tomatoes.

Cooked identical quantities of noodles for an identical amount of time in approx identical water (One pot was larger, but I gave it more salt to compensate.)
and then mixed in an identical quantity of sauce.

This is probably the "stained" look you are accustomed to. But I prefer to finish cooking the noodles in the sauce, which inevitably leads to a lot more sauce on/in the noodles and plate.

Thoughts:

dececco was slightly thicker than Barilla. offered a slightly more pleasing bite imo. I like more substantial things.

However, the Barilla picked up the sauce better imo and had a slightly better flavor.

So overall I think its negligible.

Sauce was definitely better with the canned san marzano tomatoes than with these fresh ones. Like, they were similar, but the san marzano was better.

Here are the side by side pictures. Dececco is on the left, Barilla on the right.

Also, I'm pretty fuking broke. I get $192 a month from Uncle Sam to buy groceries. Which is $44.31 a week. I do my best to spend it on good whole foods so that I can eat well instead of buying frozen ****.
Always wait until meat it $2/lb or less before I buy it, etc.

Most of the expensive cuts ITT are from times when I was either living with, or visiting my parents(they obviously have a lot more money than I do. lul)

anyway. I'm planning on doing chicken parm soon. Was gonna make it for dinner today, but I accidentally heated my pan waaaay too hot (like 630 degrees lol) and burned the breading on the chicken.

Made the Chicken Parm. Ironically forgot to shred parm on it before I took the photo. LOL

But OH MY GOD was this good. Poverty AF photo cause I couldn't be ****ed setting anything up and needed to eat it like immediately. (Might have tasted a bit while I was cooking it...)

Literally one of the best things I've ever eaten man.
