Navy Seal Chief accused of murder

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/23/u...es-of-war.html
Chief Gallagher was arrested in September on more than a dozen charges, including premeditated murder and attempted murder. If convicted, he could face life in prison. He has pleaded not guilty and denies all the charges.
Two SEAL snipers told investigators that one day, from his sniper nest, Chief Gallagher shot a girl in a flower-print hijab who was walking with other girls on the riverbank. One of those snipers said he watched through his scope as she dropped, clutching her stomach, and the other girls dragged her away.

Another day, two other snipers said, the chief shot an unarmed man in a white robe with a wispy white beard. They said the man fell, a red blotch spreading on his back.

Before the 2017 deployment, Chief Gallagher ordered a hatchet and a hunting knife, both handmade by a SEAL veteran named Andrew Arrabito with whom he had served, text messages show. Hatchets have become an unofficial SEAL symbol, and some operators carry and use them on deployments. Chief Gallagher told Mr. Arrabito in a text message shortly after arriving in Iraq, “I’ll try and dig that knife or hatchet on someone’s skull!”

On the morning of May 4, 2017, Iraqi troops brought in an Islamic State fighter who had been wounded in the leg in battle, SEALs told investigators, and Chief Gallagher responded over the radio with words to the effect of “he’s mine.” The SEALs estimated that the captive was about 15 years old. A video clip shows the youth struggling to speak, but SEAL medics told investigators that his wounds had not appeared life-threatening.

A medic was treating the youth on the ground when Chief Gallagher walked up without a word and stabbed the wounded teenager several times in the neck and once in the chest with his hunting knife, killing him, two SEAL witnesses said.
When senior platoon members confronted Chief Gallagher about the captive’s death, they said, he told them, “Stop worrying about it, they do a lot worse to us.”
“I just got word these guys went crying to the wrong person,” Chief Gallagher wrote to a fellow chief in one of hundreds of text messages included in the report. To another, he wrote: “The only thing we can do as good team guys is pass the word on those traitors. They are not brothers at all.”

cliffs:

-Highly decorated Navy Seal War Veteran Chief accused of several charges, including murder.
-Multiple SEALs testified against him as witnesses of his crimes, and there was a coverup.
-There have been several cases of horror stories in recent years from both the marines and the navy seals.

Do you guys think maybe there's a line drawn where dehumanizing the enemy or being in war too much can turn you into a monster? Also, do you think a lot of people who are naturally excellent soldiers who are calm under pressure are actually psychopaths? It's disturbing trying to understand the mentality of someone who does things like this. It's hard to understand why someone would risk everything just to do these things as well. He had a job to do, had an entire group of people loyal to him, and a specific purpose. I just don't get why he'd risk all of that and murder people randomly. Maybe he was a killer all along, and the job was his outlet for it? Scary.

Have you been living under a fukking rock?

And yes, I think it's fukked up. Your job is literally to break things and kill people, but then some *******s bitch about exactly the manner in which it was done?

Please...

EDIT: I'm only referring to the bomb maker that he killed, which from what I've heard, was justified.

I don't watch mainstream news, and I've been avoiding it lately precisely for this reason. Depressing chit everyday man.

His job is to kill specific people though. He executed a prisoner in a brutal manner, and allegedly shot innocent people for no reason. That is definitely not in his job description. I can understand an extremely callous and brutal person saying that what he did to the 15 y/o kid was no big deal because the kid was still a combatant. (Nevermind the fact that was a violation of Geneva conventions and a war crime.) But, what about the girl or the old man?

And then the coverup, and the way the other people tried to suppress the story. It's pretty fuked up man.

I think there is a point where if you fight the enemy for long enough, it just becomes to the point where you don't even see them or anyone who looks like them as people anymore.

Classic murrcan.

You don't think war should be governed by any rules?

"Oh they went from house to house raping women and children, they killed civilians who weren't a threat, who cares, it's a war"

Even if you don't give a chit about the concept of human rights, even if you think "they're just poor, brown, unimportant people whose deaths are justified because the country I live in decided to go to war in their country", do you really have no idea about the effects that blurring the lines has in the long term?

After 9/11, G.W. said "America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world." This may be a surprise to you, but that's not actually the case.

Even though I do not like some of your anti american sentiments, I am inclined to agree with you on this. And America hasn't been the brightest beacon of freedom and opportunity since like...the '80's. We actually have the most people in prison per capita, have a very regulated government where you cannot even open a lemonade stand anymore without a fuking permit, and the opportunity has dried up quite a bit. I also do not think killing civilians is a good thing. First of all, we initiated these wars under the premises of righting the injustice of killing civilians or destabilizing a regime that terrorizes civilians. What is fuked is more civilians died in those wars than ever died in the terrorist attacks or due to the actions of Sadam Hussein's regime. But regardless of why the wars happen, I think that if we dehumanize enemies enough, we become monsters.

I sometimes also wonder if many of our soldiers are actually secretly always like this, and their job is their outlet. They say 1-2% of the population is psychopathic, and if you look at a frontline military position or special forces, it seems that you would be favored to be more psycopathic. The result is that probably some really really bad apples get through who genuinely enjoy killing. And they are probably damn good at it too. These people probably make excellent soldiers aside from the fact that they are impossible to control. Psychopathy is also tied to impulsivity and poor decision making, examples of which we saw where the Chief risked his career and everything to murder people in cold blood in front of witnesses. It's really bizarre.

SEALs are touted as one of the most elite andprofessionalspecial forces in the world. Stabbing wounded fighters in the neck and shooting little girls who are no threat isn't really either of those things.

When fellow SEALs are telling you to knock it the fuk off then you are clearly a liability and need to meet punishment.

As for why he did it, fear probably. A lot of people tend to meet fear with force, the guy was probably terrified of what the enemy would do to him if they had a chance and channelled it into becoming cold blooded and dehumanising everybody who wasn't wearing the same uniform. Having said that, he seems to still be pretty psychopathic even before and after his deployment so the guy probably just loved sick chit.

One issue was his authority. He was the Chief, and there were multiple people covering for him. What do you do when your leaders are the ones who are fuked up?

If you go around gunning down civilians for lols, you're a murderer plain and simple and any nonsense about 'being at war' is just cope from bloodthirsty sociopaths. If found guilty, he should face exactly the same sentence as he'd receive for doing this in his home town.

In a brotherhood like the SEALs, I honestly don't know. On one hand they know what needs to be done, on the other hand they know what will or could happen to them if they say anything. That could range from losing their entire career to catching a not so friendly bullet in the back on the next ride out.

Yeah. it took a LOT of guts for those guys to do the right thing and come forward. The other commander guy told them to just drop it too...I would hope charges would be pressed against those who said to drop it for covering it up. That has to be a breach of ethics at the very least if not accessory of some form. I understand they have a strong bond and protocol, and to betray a fellow SEAL is unthinkable to these men, but the moment you do something like that, you aren't acting as a SEAL. The real traitor was the murderer and not the men who turned him in.

Honestly, some miscers are lol. Not just miscers either. I know a guy who thought the NZ attack was okay, and that everyone who died deserved it. He thinks there are no innocent people, and by simply carrying the label of muslim, you're fair game. He would say this guy did nothing wrong.

If you can't gutshot a little girl to shake some of that frustration then whats the point of having a rifle?

He did the right thing regarding the ISIS fighter. He witnessed time and time again Obama releasing killers back to the wild years prior. He saved lives by ending theirs.

Maybe they shouldnt have joined ISIS? Just a thought.

My post is ONLY in reference to the original allegation against him, the killing of an enemy combatant, specifically a bomb maker, not towards any of the other recent allegations that have been made against him (I don't know the details of those or whether or not they do or don't have any merit).

I'm an EOD myself, so I have little sympathy for bomb makers and don't give a rat's ass as to the method in which he was killed.

? For what? There was that marine case a while back where they all gangraped some girl dude. It is my suspicion that some of these men are psychopaths, and if they are, then they likely do rape, steal, and do whatever else they can get away with to their victims.

It may be difficult for sheltered p*ssy's and cucks state-side to understand, but once you've smelled literal chit, piss and charr'ed ripped opened guts, along with the tasted of iron on your tongue that stays there for days... your not even in the same universe of perspective that these men and women are.

Take everything I just wrote above, and multiply it by 100 if your SEAL, MARSOC, SWCC, Night Raiders, ECT. You have no idea... let the military handle this and stay in your own lane.
That's fine except for there are plenty of SEALs and people who didn't murder or rape anybody or anything like that. So, nah dude. We have laws. There are also international laws against war crimes. Just because you're military doesn't mean you get a pass.

However traumatized he is from his ops (which, everyone said he was extremely calm and collected), he still murdered people dude. Being military isn't a defense to murder.

Do you majestic ******* understand that FELLOW SOLDIERS reported him? Pretty sure they laced up boots and judged his actions.

They should court-martial him and then send back overseas, where the families of the grandpa and schoolgirl he killed decided how he will be punished. I'd vote for public stoning.

He sounds like a power tripping, psychopathic, overly violent, royal piece of chit.

There's no honor in killing an innocent girl with her friends on a riverbank, shooting some old man walking around, and walking up to 15 year old and stabbing him multiple times in the neck and once in the chest. I don't care how badass his training was, it clearly got to his head where he apparently thinks he is invincible and can do whatever the fukk he wants.

Stuff like this is why a lot of the people in Iraq/Afghanistan have a deep hatred for us and continue to try get revenge.

We go into their country for oil/opium/"weapons of mass destruction", bomb the chit of their homeland, kill innocent people for no apparent reason other than the retarded logic of "well hurr durr the terrorists killed one of my guys so that means I get to kill an innocent person now".

There's a reason why, what, seven platoon members including senior SEALsreported him for what he did over there. There's no excuse for that chit.

FOH....

People respond to the posts you make in fact, not the ones in your head.

If you'd said you were ONLY responding to the claim that this guy killed an enemy prisoner instead of taking him back to base, well that literally is something that happens in war. Try not to get caught breaking the rules but meh whatever, most people just don't care that much about it either way.

Try to make your point clearer next time.
