Didn't read much up til here but I think it's fair to say the writing of this show has been abysmal since they ran out of source material. Benioff and Weiss are absolutely awful at their jobs and have totally butchered this saga in the name of wrapping it up to move on to other projects. They built up the Night King and the Dragons for 8 seasons only to have them easily killed off when it suited the plot. Heat seeking scorpion bolts that obliterate ships like they are made of balsa wood. Blind dragons who can't see 10 ships floating around in the water. Night King javelin champion. Teleporting navies. Jon not even saying a word to Ghost who has saved his life multiple times. Just piss-poor, chit writing in every aspect.

I don't think Benioff and Weiss combined have ever written anything (and almost certainly nothing original) that has been all that well-received. Benioff wrote Troy (Brad Pitt), but I wouldn't call that original and the movie wasn't technically great overall. His other work looks pretty lame, and GOT is the first thing I see Weiss credited for as a writer


The first two episodes in Season 8 were actually far better than the two we've seen from Benioff/Weiss so far, and those first two were written by other people

Honestly the show was a lot better before when they were going off the books. The writing droped off big time since then. I feel like too many characters have plot armor and don’t die like they would if GRRM was writing it. The prince that was promised didn’t show up on the show even though they promised...

I'm surprised how much stock people put into prophecies. We've seen literally nothing to actually suggest they're iron-clad and will definitely happen.

There's tons of prophecies on Earth too and even when they end up happening it was just a lucky guess, my dudes.

GRRM didn't really kill off characters like flies in battles though. It was more through intrigue. I don't think he killed off any major characters in battles. Yoren, half-hand, ygritte... not sure who else

No joke, Benioff & Weiss would never be at the helm writing for a series as successful as GOT if they didn't have GRRM's work to base the first seasons on. GRRM's work built it to the success it is, other writers carried the better episodes in Seasons 5 and beyond, and now we have two writers with terrible resumes crafting stories for what was one of the best TV shows of all time


If they hadn't been part of GOT from the beginning and hadn't been involved in bringing the books to the screen in the first place, no company in their right mind would make them writers on a show of this magnitude. They just don't have the credentials or track records of success

lol i'm saying she could potentially pull it off. she has the skills and athletic ability but not the experience. one vs one arya vs oberyn. oberyn would obviously win. because oberyn is crafty and smart, he would outwit her. but according to the timeline arya spent 2 years doing nothing but training in the house of white and black. so that is definitely not something to scoff at. im wondering how long she spent blind though.

While Ep4 was probably the most disappointing episode of the series for me, I decided there’s only 2 more sundays to watch this show so I’m just gonna enjoy it with massively lowered expectations because then it’s gone for good.

If they wreck Dany’s character like it looks like they’re going for though it’s going to be tough

This. I'm gonna see the show through because I've been watching it so long and I do want to see how it ends, but I'm pretty sure there will be a lot about it I don't like.

Episode 4 truly was a steaming pile of chit, I really wish GRRM had more creative input apart from D&D, who have shown their incompetence. Even the quality in the script with dialogue has been abysmal at some point (Like how watered down Tyrion is, compared to his sassy/intellectual prior self).

episode 4 wasn't that bad lol

your guys expectations were way too high from the start. show was already going off the books when stannis died

they would have done much better with 10 episodes though. i have no doubt about that. more time to build a story. when i heard it was 6 episodes i knew it was going to be really rushed, and you guys should've known as well.

So far I thought season 8 was great, The Long Night was epic af.

The only thing is that they keep pushing their SJW feminist bs, any other show I would have stopped watching by now because of this.

GoT storyline made some bad choices, I think we all agree on that - but Endgame breaks the rules of its own lore/universe to a degree where the entire movie does not work. Additionally, it lives off random one-in-a-million situations, so basically the survival of everyone is sheer luck/chance.

Examples of broken logic:
- Ancient One tells Prof. Hulk that the Infinity Stones create what we perceive as the flow of time, yet Thanos destroys them and the next scene we get says "5 years later" ... there IS NOT "later", because without any Infinity Stones there is no flow of time
- The receiver of the Soul Stone must sacrifice someone he loves, yet Black Widow does a self-sacrifice ... and Hawkeye doesn't really "love" Black Widow, he is happily married ffs, plus they squeezed in how tight they are just for that scene, as an bandaid
- The whole "one Pim vial per person, yet Thanos brings in an entire army" thing
- Ignoring that if you can go back in time, you can bring in AS MANY Pim vials as you fukin want, getting infinite do-over's, yet they only take 6 vials in 1970 ... allegedly Iron Man and Prof. Hulk are geniuses?
- Nebula has a cybernetic brain (which apparently connects to the Thanos-Wifi automatically), yet in 2023 she forgot that Thanos and HERSELF would be exactly where she was going? And brought no real help in a potential face-off???

Examples of luck/chance in decisive moments:
- a fukin rat walks over the console of Ant Man's quantum device, pressing the fukin right sequence to bring him back and trigger the ENTIRE plot ... thanks rat, for saving the universe
- Fury happened to be one of the last to be disintegrated in his area, so he had enough time to see whats going on and trigger the pager of Captain Marvel ...
- Fury always had that pager on him (what if he was taking a shower when he gets disintegrated?), yet never used it in the prior potentially-world-ending events like in New York?


There are a dozen more problems with the movie, I wrote most of that chit down in the Endgame thread, so if you want, just check my posts there. Its horrendous.

Curious... I wonder if GRRM is purposefully not finishing the books because he sucks at finishing things?... Maybe that's the game all along he is can tell stories and have crazy great commentary, interaction, story building, etc. but when it comes down to finalizing and closing out, he goes limp?
