Pictures of the real liquidators on the roof.
Radiation caused the exposure at the bottom of the film.

it is absolutely insane to think how many "bio-robots" it took to clean the entire roof (or what was left of it) of highly radioactive graphite and material. as a poster incl above, the one photographer had the majority of his film ruined because of the high levels of nuclear activity. a **** ton of men had to sacrifice their lives at less than 90sec at a time. they literally went up for less than 90sec and got sent home to never be involved again.
the one guy in the show how got his boot ripped underneath the graphite, i mean, he knew he was toast.

"Seen in the light of evolution, biology is, perhaps, intellectually the most satisfying and inspiring science. Without that light it becomes a pile of sundry facts -- some of them interesting or curious but making no meaningful picture as a whole."

cotdamn brahs, that "90 second" scene was some of the most gripping, intense, edge-of-your-seat film I've ever seen. Last time I was that hooked on a scene was the motorcycle/cop chase in Place Beyond the Pines.

It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife: the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sunup. Sleep tight mates, in your quilted chambray night shirts.

started researching into the event after watching first four episodes...
actually got a little knot in my stomach realizing how close they were to actually destroying the entire planet... insanity. (poisoning all the water from there to the black sea and beyond)

Would let Ms. Khomyuk interrogate me.
FYI, this character is not based on a real person. Ulana never existed.
I wonder if this character was just added to fill the "strong woman role" who tries and saves the world from the bad men.

There are some great documentaries and minute-by-minute reenactments of what they believed happened on youtube. The chain events of so many personal blunders, complacency, office politics and human egos getting in the way all leading to one huge disaster.
What's also sad is how so many didn't realize the severeness of what happened. So many reporters, even the people in helicopters and the poorly equipped emergency squad just got obliterated with invisible death.

Listen to the podcasts. It's explained there.

The commies lied on the radiation level and Germans only sent them a robot rated for the level the lied about. The robot promptly died

Shows good for sure. It’s not even Russia worst nuclear disaster really.
1957 they poisoned a bunch of water ways and lakes. They stored radioactive material underground and it exploded. The lakes to this day if you stand by it ur dead in an hr.

Great show. A bit irked that they had to make up the female scientist who saves the day. Almost everyone else was a real person, including the firefighter with the pregnant wife and Legasov who was the real life hero here (not to mention the 3 volunteers who saved millions) but the woman scientist only exists in the show.
