Obviously you should just comply if you want things to go easier around cops. But on the flip side of the coin, as long as you are not breaking the law, you are fully within your rights to not comply. Refusing a search for example, everyone should always refuse searches. If you aren't suspected of committing a crime, you should not identify yourself to police, because you don't have to. Cops ARE mostly good people, but plenty think that being a police officer means they get to invade your personal privacy and order you to do as they please under any circumstance, and that is not the case. Police should not have too much power and the best way to keep them in check is to assert your rights, rather than cucking out and just letting them do with you as they please, because you are a suck up to "authority". aka usually a guy who was bullied in school (I personally know a cop who we use to bully as kids and he became a cop because he wanted power) or just a guy who was too stupid to go to college, wanted a position of authority and didn't want the social stigma of being a tradie. Its laughable that people think cops became cops to help the community rather than for other personal reasons.

As usual, just someone acting like an asshat and not doing as they are told. And no context for what came before this. Maybe he went looking for something he could film to get views. No telling.

In any event, it's pretty easy not to get into these situations. Act respectful, do as you're told and make no sudden movements and you'll be fine. If it was an unjustified stop, you can bitch and sue or whatever AFTER everything is over. Don't be retarded when surrounded by cops.

As a police officer I've needed to detain people for hundreds/thousands of reasons, you don't always have time to nicely explain that to them when you first see them, and depending on the reasoning you could already on edge. Example: There is a shooting/robbery/assault 1/4 mile away and I pull over a car/person matching the same description. The driver decides to get on a soapbox and argue that he isn't doing anything wrong and I have no right to detain him, while refusing to follow commands like "get your hands out of your pocket" or "put your hands on the steering wheel". Now, in this case hopefully you can see things from my point of view getting a little more worked up, drawing my gun (at least by my side) and calling for another unit, who will show up and see some guy matching such and such description not following my commands. BUT you can also see things from the other person's point of view if they really weren't doing anything wrong, they would absolutely feel harassed. Hopefully I have time to explain everything to them afterwards and they understand, this happens 99% of the time but unfortunately there's just not always time.
Instead of watching "harassment" videos on repeat, these guys need to watch the multitude of videos of cops getting attacked so they understand.

I saw one traffic stop in a neighborhood where the cop was at the driver window, I think waiting for his partner to run ID on the driver. One second the driver is shooting the chit with the cop talking about how he does his hair, the next the driver has a fukin gun in the cop's face. Talking is known to slow reaction time so talking your head off and whining does nothing to ease the cop's mind.

IThere used to be this montage of officer fatalities by armed aggressors. Went a long way in showing just how much of a knife's edge they walk on everyday.

first time I got pulled over was past curfew (under 18, supposed to be home by 10PM) because my car matched a description of another vehicle that was driving around with "kids partying and being loud". Once he took my info, saw I was alone, and compliant, he let me go.

All my cars have either been stereotypical junkers, or modified vehicles with dark tint that would be standard for some hoodrat to drive and never had an issue.

crazy how acting like a decent respectful human being gets you respect in return. Every time I get stopped, first words out of my mouth are "Hello officer, how are you doing today". I limit what I say, but I respond to their questions as they ask them, and let them know if I'll be reaching somewhere to get something they requested, keep my hands in plain view, etc.

And before anyone goes off about privilege, I'm clearly not white and the name on my driver's license is most certainly not a white name.

Expounding on your post above...i remember a year ago or so I watched a youtube video compilation of seemingly innocent traffic stops that turned violent on a dime (violence against police officers) and it really helped me understand why cops would be so on edge when it comes to these things. Gave me a greater respect for their work. I can't seem to find any now, but just take a look at any of the number of traffic stops gone wrong on youtube and it might help OP and others who are anti-cop understand as well. Brb going about your job just to have a gun pulled and get shot for no good reason.

EDIT: i see you mentioned exactly that lmao

Nah. It is clearly in the Constiution. The law states that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Anything else isn't actually law, but rather just mob rule enforced by thugs with guns.

Yeah dude same. And doesn't matter if I was pulled over in the hood or the suburbs, I never feared for my life because I did what was needed to alleviate their suspicion.

The video I was talking about was pretty sad, it was alot of cops just being civil and courteous before getting bum rushed and killed execution style. Clearly the guys who get in trouble come in suspecting white cops are gonna be racist. Gee who's the prejudice one in that scenario?

Your title doesn't make much sense. He did the exact opposite of complying with an officer's orders. I'm almost surprised that he did not, in fact, get shot.

Dude...the orders could have gotten him shot. If he had reached his hand in to turn off the engine, dude could have shot him.

Here are some other vids of incident.

2nd video shows no visible gun, immediate escalation with gun drawn and pointed...

you tell me if this wasn't fuked up.

look how fast the situation escalated...all because the guy didn't turn his car off because he didn't think he did anything wrong. That's why he asked "why?".

u can tell 30 s in, dude is scared shtless so he notifies his stream of what is about to happen rather than pull out his license and insurance. This 20 s delay led to a gun being drawn and pointed at his face. Seriously...

btw his gun and car were registered in his name. His crime? loitering and resisting a lawful order that could have gotten him killed...

THIS. IS. BULLCHIT. Stop making excuses for the police state plz.

He should have done it real quick before the cop could react.

Not srs

The problem is that he was recording the situation, but we don't know the full story. I don't know why the cops had their guns out already. For all I know the cop saw the rifle and thought the worst of the situation. For the record, I don't know anyone who has a gun in their car. According to the article, this took place in Arkansas?

EDIT: didn't see your edit until after I posted this.

EDIT2: Why didn't he show the cop his driver's license and registration but proceeded to record the incident instead?

I found the full story. It's as bad as it looked. Cop went zero to 60 so fast...

I don't even see the gun. I'm not sure it is even visible. That gun comment could have gotten him killed.

If you're a black man, it is safer for you to record your live stream and not immediately comply than to attempt to comply and potentially be wrongfully arrested or killed.

You are an idiot if thinking following orders could have gotten him shot. He got a gun drawn on him BECAUSE he wouldn't follow orders.

U realize there are cops out there that plant chit on people and frame them to make a collar right? The fact is this cop went from "license and registration" to gun pointed at man's face yelling "gun!" in about 30 s. That, bro, is insane. Period.
