Why the chit are people going there? I just dont get it. If youre going to actually travel past florida why the hell would you choose the DR over any other of the hundreds of islands down there that dont suck?

Anyone ever been to DR? How much is your dollar worth? How expensive are those all inclusive resorts?
Can you go snorkling etc?

I know hawaii is gorgeous but expensive. Just wondering how DR is without all the deaths.

I know some people are blaming bootleg alcohol, but I still think there is more to it. So far, it's only been Americans dying. Unless these resorts are 100% American, I would expect a Canadian or a German or some other nationality to have also died as well. The fact that's it's just Americans makes me think it's targeted. This doesn't seem accidental to me.

Poland has twice the GDP per capita tho. But I know several who claim to been spiked around there and scammed/stolen from their credit cards (i.e. wake up after blacking out with several thousands missing). Not death, but still sketchy things going on



Spent last week in a country with same GDP per capita as Dominican Republic. You should be aware that people can be more desperate for cash and lower their ethics to get it, sketchy stuff is more likely to happen, and if chit hits the fan investigation is likely to be sub par, and corruption is not uncommon

Only people who've been killed so far are American tourists. All unrelated.

They've been killed in different resorts spread out in different parts of the Dominican republic.

There are multiple ongoing investigations.

No one has any idea who the killer is.

I went before it went to total chit and it was still chit. I went because the resort was owned by one of my wifes bosses friends so we got a good deal. It sucked. Food sucked, resort was meh, Diving/snorkeling was meh at best, if you left the resort OMG gross, things were cheap but not cheap enough.

Save your money and go to a florida resort, it will be better in every way including the diving. Or go to maybe, bahamas, bimini, keys, of anywhere else. Chit Cuba is probably a better place to go.

Desperation is a helluva drug. Makes good people do bad things.

Never understood why people wanted to vacation amongst the desperate. The disparity is weird - I’m rich, you’re ‘kids eat dirt’ poor - give me a deal on these tchotchkes.

I don’t think this investigation is going far. Their tourism minister was on the news saying the deaths were related to Americans gorging on unlimited food & drinks and their bodies not being ‘used’ to it. I was like bich please, the only time Americans don’t eat like that is when they are on a crash diet.

I honestly can't understand why someone would want to travel to some 3rd world chitholes for the sake of traveling/vacationing. There's a plethora of great places to see in the world, yet people choose to drastically increase their risks by specifically seeking out chitholes to spend their free time and money in. Never made any sense to me.
