You know what it reminds me of is an old sci fi story called the "Pedestrian". It's about this old guy who takes an evening walk through his town and he doesn't see anybody. They're all inside their houses watching TV. I gotta hand it to our pursuit of happiness and quick dopamine hits from porn, fast food, social media, etc. True satisfaction comes through sacrifice and pain unfortunately. Not stupid things like self-harm, but things like lifting weights, pushing your mind academically and improving yourself socially. Just put on some Tony Robbins if you are struggling with depression and it really will help. Of course seek medical intervention if necessary, but there are still plenty of problems to solve and plenty of important jobs to be done. After all it's finding joy in our labors under the sun that brings the deep joy of success.

It's concerning seeing the victim mentality take hold of many miscers including some of the previous posters. Look to the single mom here who isn't making excuses, but getting things done. I got a tumor in my belly that could kill me, but I'm not letting that stopping me from the pursuit of excellence in my chosen profession. If I really sat around and thought about it. It would make a lot more sense for me to just die and get it over with, but screw that. I'd rather go down swinging.

I bet that the synthetic additives / high fructose corn syrup / preservatives in almost all food nowadays and the huge increases in fast food consumption and portion sizes has something to do with it. Along with social media

This so much. I've seen young single mothers completely disregard the importance of a father (or a good father) in their kid's lives. I've lived mostly without my dad around, grew up around people who were in the same or worse spot, and can say I agree 100% with all the studies showing that growing up in a single mother household will most likely set you up for failure.

But noooooo. Good luck convincing 100% left leaning feminist ass licking media that anything other than "you go girl" or "you don' need no man" media isn't sexist.

All these in excess are bad for you, but I don't think it's causing suicides. I think loneliness, alienation, a lack of control over our own lives is what's killing us. Too many people are living paycheck to paycheck in a job they hate, play video games instead of having active hobbies, watch porn instead of putting effort into finding a real, meaningful relationship. Then go on instagram and see all the celebrities they follow living their ideal life. The idea of "community" barely exists anymore as everyone is working different hours, 7 days a week. We know we're completely expendable, just a cog in a machine, providingourlabour so a small minority of people can get even richer while we survive off peanuts. Of course, we get depressed and a lot of people don't have the support network around them to help them out of the rut that is modern life.

A lot of people can put it down to "men not being men anymore!" but I think a lot of this is projection and a failure to look at the bigger picture. Nobody is stopping you from doing masculine activities; Weightlifting, boxing, MMA, car modification. The problems are systemic, a lot of us simply don't feel like we provide any value to the world.

Well to suit your title you should have provided the actual raise in suicide rather than the disparity between men and women :

"It found that, among those aged 15 to 19, 8 per 100,000 people committed suicide in 2000. That number jumped to 17 per 100,000 in 2017."

So yeah the number of suicide among the 15-19 doubled within 17 years.

Being a beta ******* myself, I have empathy for them, may God be mercifull upon their soul and grants them the peace in heaven they could not achieve on earth.
