^^^ Conflating what you should do if don't want to get shot, and what you should have to do.

Example -

A gang of armed thugs come up to you and tell you to stop smoking.
Sure enough, if you want to get home safely, you should probably just put out your smoke
Where's the problem?
A group of thugs shouldn't have that authority. And the analogy should be clear

So now the group of thugs have badges, and are in fact law enforcement officers... oh it's totally fine now, they're no longer thugs, but righteous officers of the law.

Yeah. legit observation. so many other ways the cop could have de-escalated. For one, the minute guy refused to turn off car should have pulled out gun and said turn it off now. If not that let him go and warn ahead he would be driving down highway.

You guys think this plays out the same way if the 'bad guy' is a tiny female? How about an old granny that got freaked out and decided to drive off? Should be police officer have held onto her car and started shooting at her too?

So you would then say "But such and such is more likely to be a bad guy, therefore he deserved to be shot in the face"

Is that right now?

Answer without making a joke out of it.

Granny that smells of weed freaks out, hits the gas.

Should the officer hold onto her car and start shooting at her?

Yes or a No

So yes it was only a faint odor of weed. Not worth losing anyone's life over.

But the cop was smart and knew something was up. Everyone knows a minor amount of weed is no big deal and isn't even ticketable as a misdemeanor most places anymore.

The cop could tell the guy was sketching out and going to run. That's why he grabbed the seatbelt and drew. He knew he was dealing with a serious criminal with something big hiding in the car.

What if this guy just shot up a cookout and killed some kids with that illegal gun? What if he was on his way to do that? Wouldn't you want a cop willing to risk his life to stop a piece of chit gangbanger like this guy?

Nice shooting officer. I hope the thug died.

^ The cop didn't have that information available to him at the time, so when judging the cops actions, information gained after the fact is irrelevant. Might sound like it's not, but it is. And I hate to say this, and I'm not even arguing this is the case... but who knows where that stolen gun actually came from honestly.

No doubt the guy was a scumbag, and maybe even deserved to be shot for other things he's done in his life...

But that's not what we're judging

We're judging the cops actions based on the information he had at the time.

That information is as follows -

Guy smelled of weed
Guy tried taking off

He held onto his car and shot him because he tried taking off.

That's not good enough reason to kill someone in my opinion. Even if you strongly suspect the guy is a scumbag, you shouldn't have the legal authority to kill them based on that.

If anything it's more dangerous that an old Granny on her "glaucoma medicine" speeding off than a young gent on his "personal use" medication.

Old people have a penchant for mistaking the brake and gas pedal and crash through buildings all the time. You think I want ol granny high on the devils lettuce driving erratically through the streets? Hell no. Cop should act the same in both cases.

So much for your "gotcha". Good attempt at race bait though. Too bad you're a fukking idiot.

Pretty cut and dry.

1) Obey cop --> get ticket for weed --> move on with life

But this guy had an illegal gun in the car. He knew he wasn't just getting popped for weed. So, he got stupid and won his prize for it.

Is there any effort being made to improve the selection process?

I understand people can spaz out in high pressure situations and those people don't need to have a license to kill.

Youre a ****ing idoit, that cop has REALLY good instincts and knew what was about to happen next. Homeboy was acting a ****ing fool and the cop knew it. He refused to to follow his command to keep his hands up. And right before that he started to get belligerent and reached for the steering wheel, and drive selector to run for it. Watch the video again, not that it will matter for you, since you are probably a hands up dont shoot.

For the people who didn't click thru to YT:
Officer has minor injuries.
Driver was later caught and a stolen handgun found in the vehicle.

1. Is hanging onto a moving vehicle smart?

2. Is it then reasonable to potentially kill the driver of said vehicle for endangering your life?

Everything else is irrelevant.

How many police empathizers ITT would hang on to a moving vehicle?

Too many Die Hard marathons for the cop.

How is this logic? Some people don’t freak out when faced with unknown things, some people do. Someone who was pulled over could have a panic attack or they could be calm as fk.

What the **** are you talking about, he was in the middle of trying to pull him out of the car to prevent him from running and endangering others, while the piece of **** tried to run and got shot because he was acting stupid. And being he was just shot it would be incredibly stupid to allow someone in that state to flee and further endanger others. He put himself in danger to try and prevent putting regular citizens in danger.
