Businesses are supposed to be FOR PROFIT
THE FOR PROFIT MOTIVE
In economics, the profit motive is the motivation of firms that operate so as to maximize their profits. Mainstream microeconomic theory posits that the ultimate goal of a business is to make money. Stated differently, the reason for a business's existence is to turn a profit.

WHY is it acceptable for a CEO to lose money like this????????????????
The one thing we can depend on companies is to be greedy and only care about MONEY... but somehow these companies are throwing money away to participate in social engineering? Seriously, there is a bigger picture that people arent seeing here.

I hate Gillette as much as the next guy (products are crap) but the guy in the youtube video is either playing dumb or knows absolutely nothing about accounting or corporate acquisitions. He's most likely financially illiterate and partially retarded.
Gillette didn't "lose" 8 billion. They are owned by P&G who acquired them in 2005 and typically when corporations perform acquisitions of other companies they will overpay by a significant percentage of the company's value in order to incentivize the shareholders or owners to sell their stake in the company. This is known as "goodwill" and this also includes intagible assets that cannot be fully evaluated at time of acquisition. There is literally a formula for goodwill in corporate accounting and this is carried on the balance sheet.
It is likely that P&G adjusted the value of this intangible asset during its earning period and had to record a charge against it now that it has owned Gillette for many years and can properly assess the goodwill amount paid (cash plus stock) to acquire the company. P&G had a great 4th quarter and it is a perfect time to announce a large write down like this. This is why the Gillette CEO feels "safe" to come out and speak out in support of their stupid marketing campaign.
I will let the actual CPA's chime in and correct me as I am an intermediate trader and not a professional by any means. But frauds like the idiot in YT video are embarrasing and give all educated people a bad name and his video just serves his retarded talking points. I understand it fits his narrative but he clearly doesn't know what he is talking about and this shows in the clickbait title. Read the actual article he "references" in his video where he claims Gillette "lost" 8 billion despite P&G announcing confidence in their brand. Truth is that anything Gillette does PR wise is approved by P&G and they are one of the most successful corporations in the world so good luck boycotting them and hoping they go out of business.

Hardly matters if the company goes under. Those in charge at the top will just take a fat pay check and move onto the next company to ruin.

Procter and Gamble record earnings, so I doubt they care about writing down one of their brands. Their earnings from grooming products grew 7% despite a 1% decrease in sales.

I use clippers to keep my facial hair, so couldn't care less about gillette, and I just saw the commercial, and don't understand what's the big deal - not like they told every guy to start wearing a dress, and put on makeup.
Aside from the blanket support for metoo, and that dumb scene with the guy filming at the pool party, I don't see any issues with the commercial? They're speaking up against bullying, and some crass behaviour. The reality is that the traditional masculinity that so many people are defending is likely no different (I'm thinking 1950s-70s); parents would teach their children to behave with respect, not act lewd, not start trouble (this doesn't mean you don't hit back if you're hit), treat women with respect, treat your elders with respect, not act like a buffoon, "yes sir/yes ma'am", etc.

You really only get people who are traditional in that sense in few places these days - I'm thinking Southern USA, where I've seen people act rather polite and hospitable for the most part.
Unless this is some modern notion of "traditional" masculinity (2019) where you have guys acting like fuking morons for the most part.

If people want to defend traditional masculinity - act in that manner. Lots of guys today behave like women - want things one way, but act in a completely different manner.
And before some illiterate who is only able to read the 4-letter words of my post; no, I'm not siding with metoo, as I think it's completely fuked, or any of that other modern day bullshiit.
Inb4 comments about the pics - I'm using them as exampled, not real world depictions of those two notions of men.

I know the general public aren't bright enough to pick up on trends and act before things like this happen.
But I saw this coming back when they had Tiger Woods as their spokesman.
It feels good to be right all the time.
