Pro-Bodybuilder claims you don't even need to eat 33 calories over your BMR but doesn't elaborate why in this video. Basically says he diets year round and eats only enough to maintain his condition. Feels like putting on excess body fat in not needed to add lean muscle mass and reduces the amount of effort you need to cut down.
In this second video he claims he's natty in the first two pics in the thumbnail.

No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

Most natty beginner lifters just get fat when they're told to go on a bulk. i think it's overrated.
I'm currently cutting and my muscles still get bigger with my strength going up. Much more satisfying this way than gaining mass+fat with less definition.
And the little bit of added size you gain from the bulk, will end up getting lost for a large portion anyways since cutting is never 100% fat loss only.

The reasoning behind the calorie thing is that it takes about 1,000 calories to build a pound of muscle, so over the course of the year if you gain ten pounds of muscle you only need 10,000 calories. The guy is super smart and keeps it real, and I actually believe he was natural in those pics.

Kind of. Unless you have a large frame, bulking can get excessive very quickly. While its true being a caloric surplus helps gain strength, there a diminishing return past a certain point with the amount of food.

So I don't need to eat 3000+ calories lol. Just maintain my current body fat and train hard AF while eating clean lmao

It is easier to hit bigger lifts when you’re blood sugar is high and you’re not hungry
But it’s also harder to lift when you’re bloated from overeating
I think eating a small caloric surplus is best but “bulking” probably gets a bad name from people just using it as an excuse to eat mass amounts of trash

https://bodyrecomposition.com/muscle...ain-math.html/
Level Gain Surplus/Month Surplus/Day
Beginner 1.5 lbs/month 5250 calories 175 calories
Intermediate 1 lb/month 3500 calories 120 calories
Advanced 0.5 lbs/month 1750 calories 60 calories
Beginner 1.5 lbs/month 5250 calories 175 calories
Intermediate 1 lb/month 3500 calories 120 calories
Advanced 0.5 lbs/month 1750 calories 60 calories
the fact that a pound of muscle only contains about 125 grams of protein has been used to draw some very stupid conclusions. One of which being that you only need that excess of protein to build that same pound of muscle. By the same logic, if you can build one pound of muscle per month, you only need 125 grams of protein per month extra which is 4 grams of protein above the DRI. This too is nonsense and assumes, wrongly, that one extra gram of protein is all that is required to lay down on gram of muscle protein. But nothing in the body is 100% efficient and this no different.

so many people who "bulk and cut" just stay in terrible shape about 80% of the time and only have a lean appearance when they're on extremely restricted cals + who knows what diuretics and laxatives and other unmentionables.
But if you're 75kg trying to end up at 100kg it's probably going to be an implausibly slow process if you don't do it like that.
BUT if you aint trying to move up several weight classes and especially if you're a woman then IMO the smart move is to push the highest amount of intakes you can benefit from without going into excess. Or maybe slightly into excess but I'm talking like... end of winter you have 2kg to drop and just have to go back to a conservative intake rather than an adventurous one, rather than you've blown out by 15kg and hope that if you drop 13kg of it you'll still look as lean as last year only a little heavier.
edit: 33 cals above BMR though?
No. BMR is how much energy your require to run your organs and grow fingernails and **** each day if you didn't get out of bed for a week.

Can someone explain the logic behind "bulking is a myth" ***gotry?
Brb I started out at 130 lbs skinny fat soaking wet, should I not have bulked to 180 and gained 50 lbs? Or would it be better to just spin my wheels and stay at 130 forever?

I think there is something to this. I was fat when i started lifting and was obsessed with trying to gain muscle and got fatter. Eventually i went on a crazy cut, 5 pounds per week lost, and gained strength at about the same rate as when I was in surplus. Definetly gained some muscle too, but was eating 1.5 pounds of elk per day.

All you gain is fat after your first 1-2 years of lifting whether you bulk or not. People just think its muscle when its fat and glycogen.
