It is telling that according to reports, when Fravor returned to the Nimitz, the people were teasing him and making light of the situation, not taking it seriously- so perhaps it could have even been a military training test for Fravor's first assignment on the F-18 Super Hornet. Unlikely? Who knows. But a military training test is still a simpler explanation than an advanced alien race bending spacetime to reach earth and play games in the sky. Hence, Occam's Razor.

Might want to relearn Occam's Razor, you clearly don't understand it that well.

Also, it seems Joe Rogan's podcast is turning more and more into George Noory Coast to Coast AM. I mean this stuff is fun and all.....but it's not to be taken seriously lol. We simply don't have good evidence for UFO visitation or paranormal bs.
But multiple radar caught the object as well, making it not from "optical zoom". Youre making up terms.

Super hornet was already in service for 9 years in 2004, so not his first flight.

Huh? Because the Super Hornet was in service for longer, it couldn't have been his first flight? Brb little Johnny is boarding an airplane for the first time today, but nope couldn't have been his first time since planes have been around since the Wright brothers.

That point about it being the first flight btw isn't even critical. I simply mentioned that because it said so in the quote on the Wikipedia page. After looking into it more, it appears his first assignment in the F-18 Super Hornet could have been earlier in the same year, in 2004. Doesn't really matter....either way it could have been a training exercise.

As for making up words....is zoom really that much a made up word for you? There are all kinds of things picked up by military radar all the time....problem is this doesn't really mean anything in itself. It certainly is not extradoardinary evidence for visitation by aliens- literally the only major point I'm trying to convey in this thread.

Fukken white and black blurry dots is the best we can come up with as proof of alien life? By the US military? Get the fook outta here, who the fook is this guy.
EXACTLY if ufos existed the proof would be as clear as HD by now. Fact is that supernatural and ufo sightings have plummeted since the invention of HD surveillance cameras and smart phones... I wonder why...

It caught something on film, but without more data we can’t say anything more.

Let’s go off the rails and do a thought experiment on the Drake equation:

1) We’re the only intelligent life in the observable universe, it never developed elsewhere
2) it developed elsewhere but died off before becoming space faring
3) it developed elsewhere, and became spacefaring visiting many star systems, maybe ours. We’d see evidence of it at any rate.

Maybe the third possibility is the least unsettling.

I actually LOL @ how ****ing shallow and horrendous the arguments against alien life and UFOs is.

It's basically "well YOU DON'T HAVE 100% DEFINITIVE PROOF, THUS OCCAMS RAZOR"

Funniest thing is basically they project their logic of how the universe SHOULD be and call that Occams razor, meanwhile they claim the other side is doing the same thing

Lol very unclear what this post is trying to say...probably trying to sound deep or something, who knows.

I wrote up a more detailed post in response, but alas was lost due to the all-too common bodybuilding.com 404 error......so I will just say the application of Occam's razor above actually makes a lot of sense. People see things that they want to be there all the time, from ghosts to UFOs in the sky, but it's better to wait for adequate evidence of such extraordinary claims. If I told you I traveled to Pluto and back last night, and rode on dinosaurs while on Pluto, hopefully you would not believe me unless I provided adequate evidence (the default position should of course be that people aren't routinely traveling back and forth to Pluto). Without any additional evidence provided, Occam's razor in that case would dictate....I'm simply lying (surely this is the simpler assumption compared to.... I developed technology not currently known to humanity and actually made the trip and back). B.b.b..but occcam's razor doesn't make sense.....not.

No one said anything about we are the only life in the universe. You really have to detach this from the idea of alien UFOs roaming our skies, these are rather different concepts. The analogy you give is not a good one for several reasons. For one, the village people wouldn't know that the white scientists would have had to traverse a large distance measuring in many light years (or literally fold spacetime, take your pick), among other things to enter the village. They could have come from the next land or village over, not making this a persuasive example of Occam's razor. (it is notable that scientists don't think there are other technological civilizations flourishing in our own solar system- they would have very likely been noticed by now). I also do not think being a paranormal "jungle demon"isnecessarily the simpler hypothesis requiring the least assumptions as dictated by Occam's razor for the jungle people in this case. Finally, the most obvious difference, of course, is that the scientists would be presumably literally standing in the village, capable of repeatable, clear observation (contrast to the circumstances of literally every UFO sighting). Whatever the case, the default position should probably be aliens aren't traversing astronomical distances to play games in our skies (and of course not in general, but just for a few grainy, vague videos).

It's unclear because you don't have a holistic worldview, my citations are based on PURE FACTS AND SCIENCE, the fact that you try to extrapolate your science and facts onto this situation while not understanding what I cite above says it all about your "authority."

so I will just say the application of Occam's razor above actually makes a lot of sense

It really does, especially when you don't know the above terms aka have a limited worldview.

That's possibly because they don't want random people trying to snoop around military test sites like Groom Lake where they test the military crafts of the future and Wright-Patterson etc where there's been rumours of alien crafts/beings. People only do so because of the phenomenon of UFO research and, as I'm sure you can imagine, it's hardly desirable for the people responsible for these places having to deal with trespassers and such.

the outliers are in the calculation, thats what you don't understand.

here is a very dumbed down drake equation: if the odds of life happening are 1 in a million per star, and we imagine that there is only ONE habitable planet per star, on average there would be 250 THOUSAND CHANCES that life would exist in this galaxy alone. given a theorectical von neuman probe means of populating this galaxy, at a speed of 1/10 the speed of light, it would only take one SINGLE successful technologically advanced species 2 million years to populate the entire milky way. this a blip on geological timescales.

you fellas are not understanding the odds.

zero people in this whole thread has said aliens dont exist.

edit- any thinking person when presented with the logical conclusions derived from the age of the universe, the apparent emptiness of the galaxy, and the nature of abiogenesis, should pray to god that a fukload of aliens do exist and have chosen not to populate space in any way apparent to us, because of the implications for the future of earth (we not gonna make it)

to any space-faring race it would be technologically trivial to study all of earth in a variety of undetectable ways, so the only explanation for being detected that we can imagine would be an elaborate troll job.

Fermi's Paradox obviously employs occams razor- if life is not so rare, there have been hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of opportunities in the milky way alone for life to have started and evolved into a technologically advanced species- not just one with a spaceship, but one that has utterly brought the galaxy under heel. where then the fuk are they at? there have been hundreds of thousands of chances, and it only takes 1 to do it.

You're misusing Occam's razor because of your personal bias on the topic. You can't just word something to make your argument look more credible... How about this argument for Occam's razor:

"It's either aliens who have mastered spacetime, or its some phenomenon never been replicated by man in any known lab setting or otherwise, unexplained natural phenomena" See what I did there?

Also, you don't know what "extraordinary" means. This is something out of the ordinary. By definition, having multiple high ranking pilots across multiple ships and high tech tracking devices corroborate a story to this degree is somewhat extraordinary. You can't put your subjective spin on what you choose to qualify as extraordinary, a better word for you to use here would be "definitive". Because then you would be right, the evidence is not definitive, but it is certainly extraordinary by definition.

I don't even know if I'm on board with this account being real or proof of aliens, but damn dude, get your head out of your own ass or be blinded by your own bias and naivete.

the extraordinary part is all this subtext you are ignoring. that life isnt near impossibly rare, yet we have never detected it. that aliens would trend toward technological advancement, but never populate the galaxy in a way we can detect (dyson swarm, asteroid mining, etc). that aliens would develop the tech to cross space (ftl?) and then drive around (fluid locomotion is human baised) san deigo at mach 8 or some such in a CRAFT (human biased) to presumably peek at us (more weird bias) and then run away at a speed which for them would be confusingly and bizarrely slow?

that requires more evidence than a human saying "i seen it moving like nothin i never seen before!" and some radar also tracking a craft.

theres a fukton of bias in all the subtext, which tracks perfectly because we all seen space movies and chit and we imagine aliens would drive around space in their meat bag bodies and come all the way here (with their immeasurbly superior tech) and secretly (but sometimes we catch them!) put things inside and around our ass holes to study us.

it's quite retarded.

you like to quote scientists, but you ignore all the scientists who talk about this exact subject. im literally regurgitating people like bostrom, sean carroll, and the populist goober tyson.

you need to read actual scientists who study the probabilities of alien existence, and not try to imagine how einsteins theories are somehow tangentially related to this.

No I didn't quote anyone actually, you misrepresenting my argument says it all, if you can't grasp what I am saying, how can you grasp what scientists say?

I talked about LAWS and cognitive biases that SUPERSEDE Occams Razor

I did NOT quote scientists in any capacity.

Why would I read nihilistic pessimists who project their worldview onto OBSERVABLE PHENOMENA NOW BEING BACKED UP BY THE AMERICAN MILITARY?

Who do I believe:
Millions of sightings
Top military officials
A few extremely credible ones, i.e military verification and there is 1 I can go look 4 if I really want, but the fact you don't know about the MASSIVE sighting that was confirmed by air control, airplane pilots, US military

Who I don't believe:
Some nihilistic pessimistic pasty soyboys that admit we don't know **** about the brain or universe and then proceed to tell you about the true definitive nature of the universe using their brain

us "not knowing how the brain works" does not in anyway contribute to the likelihood that we have been visited by aliens.

i would wager millions of people have seen ghosts and believe ghosts are real. do you believe in ghosts? in bigfoot?

guess what, people fuking LIE.

I like how you didn't wholly address what I said.

Really proves my point, but feel free to cherry pick away my argument until there is nothing left.

Next time just respond:

U wrong

I feel like if the Navy or NASA released and acknowledged a satellite video capture that really looked like some schmuck riding a T-rex on Pluto, then I think it would be reasonable to put it up for discussion. The fact that it was narrow field/zoomed in and flipping back and forth between capture modes, although not meeting your definition of extraordinary proof, wouldn't make it less discussion worthy.

Would you still write 17 walls of text trying to shut down discussion on it?

i said millions of people believe ghosts are real (they are not)
i said david patraeus broke opsec to get his dick sucked (this is not a trivial statement, 4 star general and cia director gives up state secrets to get his dick sucked)

im refuting everything you are saying

ill conclude my participation in this, the dumbest fukin thread i have ever participated in, with a parting thought:

if it is true that a technologically advanced alien exists, then it is the best news ever told on this planet period. it means that life does not necessarily trend toward certain doom.

so to you bros who believe aliens are flying around, you should know how ridiculously optimistic your viewpoint is and take pleasure in that.

It really does, especially when you don't know the above terms aka have a limited worldview.
What in the world are you even trying to say, man. There just isn't a lot of content in this post. If you are so against things like Occam's razor.....why not address, for example, the actual points in my post? Tell me what you'd think if I told you I traveled to Pluto and back last night. Would you simply just believe me if I didn't provide adequate evidence? If not, then congratulations......you are making use of Occam's Razor.

The only point I'm making here is that alien UFO roaming our sky claims should be viewed with a skeptical eye, and the default position should be they are not doing so.....until real clear evidence arises to the contrary (imo, which we have not seen yet).

It's like "you want to believeeee"....thus to hell with skepticism, the world must be the way you want it to be. Doesn't work like that. I also want to win the lottery, etc.

No misuse. The example given in my above post is a pretty clear example lol.

"some phenomenon never been replicated by man in any known lab setting".....well not really. Unclear what you mean, but if you are talking about the video, no nothing here necessarily defies the laws of physics, for example. Even in the extreme case, and there was evidence of some object doing things never seen before, you still have the option that this is just even higher, undisclosed military tech (this is not necessarily my take on it, but for the sake of argument). Occam's razor still then is pretty clear:

-super duper advanced aliens traversed astronomical distances to play games in our skies, but strangely are not seen in general, and there is no clear evidence of them, just in random videos and anecdotes.
-it was undisclosed military tech, that happened to be connected with...a whole bunch of military stuff going on in and around this incident.

Hmmm. Not a tough one.

I realize you are trying argue semantics with the extraordinary thing, but I don't consider this extraordinary evidence.....it just seems like a story that has a ton of questions surrounding it, where even the account given by Fravor seems to be different in accounts, and is questionable (also, the "ranking military official means oh god, this has to be true!" is ridiculous ITT).This is not extraordinary evidence. Even you say yourself you don't know if you are on board with it. Extraordianry evidence, for the general at-large claim that alien UFOs are hovering around in our skies, could be, among other things, vast fleets of alien spaceships moving around our skies, visible to people clearly all over the world, clear videos galore.Thenyou wouldn't be saying "well....hmmm....I don't even know if I'm on board with it" like you literally just said about this military incident. See the difference?

Congrats on missing the point of that post.

I realize you are triggered by someone being rationally skeptical about a claim you want to belieeeeve in lol. Deal with it.

What is the minimum criteria for extraordinary evidence? There isn't any because it is completely subjective. There is only evidence.
